I see that a lot with lead parts played over the rhythm guitarist's chord progression. Thanks for explaining the possibilities of this as an intro.

Feels pretty good to have stuff like this confirmed by an accomplished musician.

I remember thinking Weezer's Island In The Sun had a cool little intro riff, turns out it's just the 4 chords from the verse using voicings on strings 1-3.

Dude, you just gave me an “ah ha” moment and removed a mental block I’ve been struggling with for a long time. I might just get that song finished now!

Your enthusiasm is infectious, band your tutorials are extremely useful. I'm getting into songwriting, so any hints/tips are very welcome. Looking forward to going through your other videos. Many thanks, my bearded friend. Greetings from Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Been working on those top string triads. Again - why oh why isn’t that taught right away to beginners?

I’ve used a couple of similar, related approaches for intros in my songs. In one case, I used the melody from the last line of the chorus, and played it by arpeggiating the underlying chord progression. Since this was actually the end of the chorus (though the listener doesn’t know that yet!), it leads right into the verse. In another case, I played a little pentatonic riff on the low strings a couple times through, then came in with the chords and vocals. I repeated that riff later after each vocal line. Though I originally wrote and performed the song on acoustic guitar, when I later did it with a band, that intro (and the riff in general) became the bass player’s line, which would occasionally be doubled on guitar.
