AJ explained this properly OS software can have a payment although it's generally very low, a few pounds, nothing ridiculous like MS or Mac..However I will say that if I had the choice between a really expensive proprietary bit of software and a similarly priced piece of OS software I'd go OS all the time..Why will take a long answer but your're increasing the amount of people working on it without an idea how it should be..Hard to explain but this leads onto viruses kind of..Anyway great video AJ 20 thumbs up

Open source don't mean free.
You can charge people money for using your software even if it was for hundreds but....
You must allow people to access the code and the components of your software and allow them to use that code and alter or change it.
The best example is RedHat Enterprise Linux.
You have to pay RedHat Money to get RHEL but red hat allows people to access the code and the components of the RHEL and alter it.
Which resulted in CentOS.
Which is basically RHEL but they removed the logo and anything related to red hat from it.
