How does one know the direction of the Grad of the constraint function? I mean, how do we know if it is inwards or outwards?

I am trying to gain intuition as to 'why'/'how' constraint gradient is parallel to target function at the max/min point? Why is constraint tangent to the function? Yes, I can see visually this at 4:58, but how do I convince myself it will always be the case? Any mathematical proof?

This cannot be. You define g(x, y) = c. But then Nabla(g) = 0!
