Which version of Orodreth's family tree do you prefer? Nephew or Brother of Galadriel? Gil-galad's father or not?

One does not simply figure out Orodreth's family tree...

I don't think NotR gets enough credit for how intriguing and enticing his intros are. The way he begins every video with what he says and how he enunciates it really gets you excited for the video while also setting a mood that I'll call "Tolkien-esque". That same feeling you get when watching LotR or especially when sitting alone reading it for the first time.

It's just really amazing that somebody else can produce those same feelings!

Poor Orodreth got sucked into Morgoth's curse on Hurin. He and his daughter died because of his trust in Turin.

Nice. can't wait for that Gil-galad video. His origin is a topic that has been confusing me for quite a while now. Thanks so much.

The tales of the First Age are always very mystical in Nature. Gets me emotional every time.

When you feature lesser characters in LOTR.. This makes the triology more complete.. A different side story that can stand alone with the events of the main movie.. Really thankful for these videos...

In my opinion it makes more sense for Gil-Galad to be the son of Orodreth. If he was the son of Fingon then that would mean Turgon would not automatically become high king, he cannot rule all the Ñoldor from Gondolin and he isn’t Fingon’s heir. It follows Agnatic primogeniture, and this is only not the case in rare circumstances.

Poor Orodreth! He had many unfortunate things happen to him, including confusion of his parentage. Most say Turin was unlucky but I think both seem to have shared similar fates. Thank you Nerd of the Rings for this video. It was great!

Sad that Orodreth got sucked into the curse, though I do think some of the curse lay within Turin himself as Gwindor pointed out.
That said, I like the idea that Orodreth was the father of Gil-Galad and that just before he set out for battle, that he sent his wife and son to the Grey Havens in the hopes that they may live. With Finduilas too stubborn to leave without Gwindor (and Turin of course), or so I've always thought.
This was a great video.

Masterful work once again, my friend. Maybe I missed it but it seems like Boromir is the only member of the Fellowship without his own video. I’d really enjoy a breakdown of the life and tragically heroic end of that Captain of Gondor. For “they will look for him from the White Tower. But he will not return from mountain or from sea...”

I always thought there must be something more to Orodreth following Turin's advice than just Turin being super charismatic. Orodreth was the one who lost Tol Sirion/Tol-in-Gaurhoth to Sauron, and later on he was unable to prevent Celegorm and Curufin from usurping the rule of Nargothrond. It's said that the reason Nargothrond abandoned open warfare was due to the fear placed in the hearts of the people by the words of Celegorm and Curufin. Perhaps Orodreth also felt guilt at not being there for Nirnaeth Arnoediad. I think Orodreth all along must have wanted a chance to redeem himself in battle and go out in a blaze of glory like his kin, but he probably deferred to the wishes of his people until Turin came along and was able to convince them otherwise.

I have a video idea
Make an entire history of Arda from the two lamps to the 4th age where all major events described in your videos so that we don t need to search to dozens of videos about particular adventures to some how understant all the events that happened in this world
You cand split it up in multiple parts like one video for each age or something.
Thank you for all of this Tolkien lore. I love your channel

now i know she hasn't any big role in middle earth but since she served both Morgoth and Sauron, is there any chance of getting a video about Thuringwethil, the Maia that had the shape of a Vampyre ?? Would love to find more about that character :))

I fully subscribe to Orodreth being Angrod’s son and Gil Galad being his son. Makes the unraveling of events and history of the Kings of the Noldor more interesting to me that way

Would love to see videos of Fingon, Turgon and very complex Maglor (poet, minstrel and the gentlest son of Feanor).
