Iran's President Ebrahim Raisi killed in helicopter crash

Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi and his foreign minister were killed when their helicopter crashed in mountainous terrain on Sunday. The pilot, bodyguards and other accompanying political and religious officials also died in the crash. The bodies have since been taken to the regional capital Tabriz.

First Vice President Mohammad Mokhber has been confirmed as interim president and is expected to serve for 50 days before mandatory presidential elections in Iran.
Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has declared five days of mourning.
