It’s also called a shovel hook because it mimics the shovel movement. A lot of golden earlier boxers used it

The smash hurts. That's all I'll say. My jaw is still sore.

In real life he was in real vulnerable state while executing his smash

I just realized that I throw uppercuts like this, never knew it was a different type of punch

The first knockdown in my career was from a smash. He perfectly timed my one-two and next thing I knew I was staring up at the lights wondering wtf just happened. Still took the fight by decision but that was the last time I threw a lazy right.

I dont think Ruddock became a champion, correct me if im wrong but he got beat both times by Tyson and once by Lennox, still an amazing fighter

Personally used it against a taller opponent, he didn’t know what was coming and thought it was a body blow. I shorter the range and threw my whole weight behind it. I actually picked up my opponent feet off the ground after landing it. Safe to say the bum couldn’t get up, landed it on his temple and his legs were jelly.

One of my favourite moves when sparring, I do a straight right feint forcing the opponent to high guard and immediately landing a smash but i usually use this when the opponent is on the rope since it's a likely chance they back away

Like most techniques in boxing, the form is exaggerated in the anime despite being based in reality. I boxed in college and now I’m into Buhurt (full contact steel armor fighting) where punching isn’t really as effective. But I hit an opponent (who’s a friend of mine) in the helmet with this punch a few months ago and he was like “Was that personal?” The output on impact is excellent if this punch connects

Razor Ruddock ruled with this technique up until he met young Mikey.

Man I wonder if use this on my 18 year old brother properly will it work? I mean I'm lost a lot of weight and been working out since November. So I should have gained muscle.

It can be thrown at any angle not just 45°
If it were to be just 45° then it would be a shovel hook instead of the smash punch

It would be possibly but will look so goofy when you are preparing to throw the fight

It just goes to show you haijame no ipo is actually pretty realistic-the exaggerations that almost every anime has
