Charcoal for bad odor in ice cooler??

I put charcoal in my cooler and was trying to take the nasty smell out. I had gotten vibrio, maybe from the water, catfish slime, something else? This sat in my cooler for a while, maybe 2 weeks, it still seems to smell, but it may have helped some.

That's the wrong kind of charcoal, dude. You need activated charcoal if you want to do something like this, not compressed briquettes. It's about the porosity and internal surface area of the material so you want spongy, airy charcoal. I found a whole bunch at my local pet supply store in granulated form. Lump charcoal would probably also do the trick in a pinch.

MAYBE 💀 haha that was great. Thanks for checking this out for us! I’d do bleach for 12 hours then hot soapy water and oxy clean, bleach again, soap again then dump in a big box of baking soda and check in a week.

Didnt help me. Made a paste from vinegar and baking soda. Coated and sat couple days. That took almost all of it away. Still a little lingering tho
