From Sex, Drugs, and Rock & Roll to Jesus: A Hippie's Journey to Faith, with Chuck Girard

My dad has had truly one of the most interesting lives. As a successful studio singer in Los Angeles as a young adult, rubbing elbows with The Beach Boys, to becoming a hippie living in Hawaii, he encountered the gospel of Jesus Christ at a little country church after searching for God through Eastern Mysticism, LSD, and popular philosophies of the '60s.

YOUR DAD IS CHUCK GIRARD ??? I saw Chuck Girard in concert in Denver when I was 17. I tell Alexa at least once a week, "Alexa, play Chuck Girard". I was leading a meeting at our church ladies group and there was a sense of heaviness in the meeting. I got out my cell phone and played a song for them. "Lay Your Burden Down." I still have that album. From 17 years old to now 62, Chuck Girard music has always blessed me. How fun for me to see this interview.

I was the Pastor of a small struggeling Church in New Zealand, I recieved a phone call one night out of the blue, from Chuck, I did not know him or he know me, he asked if we wanted him to come and play at our church. Told him we could not afford it, that was not an issue, he aim was to bless small struggleing churches. He came, he blessed us all and I am still blown away by his service, humilty and true deisre to serve and bless. After years in ministry I have seen many people come and go, but Chuck has left an amazing

For any young folks like me, I highly recommend listening to Keith Green's music; his music is just another level of beautiful worship music.

I just started watching your channel. My Dad's absolute favorite song " Sometimes Alleluia" he passed away from cancer May 2019. We played this song at his funeral. Such a beautiful song and I cry every time I hear it.
I miss my Dad so much 😪
My parents took us to the Jesus movement here in California in the 70's

When I became a Christian in 1975 at the age of 11, Love Song was the first Christian band I had ever heard, and I LOVED their music! It’s so great to see you and your dad together, and it’s such a great discussion! Thanks, Alisa!

Wow, I started listening to your dad’s songs the album “The Name above all names” 23 years ago, I would play the songs in my car while driving my 3 kids to school. Today, my 29 year old daughter and I was talking about her walk with God and she mentioned about her remembering the song Soldiers of the Lion when she was down and she would sing it and it would encourage and strengthen her to get back up and trust God. 🤲🏼

Wow Alisa, I had no idea Chuck Girard is your dad! I was listening to him in my youth along with people like Larry Stone Hill, Honey Tree, 2nd Chapter of Acts, just to name a few. Their music grew out of the Jesus movement and it dramatically influenced me in my walk with the Lord as a new Christian in my early teens. Blessings to both of you.

I Met Your Dad at a conference and discussed how my parents were saved from their drug addiction during the Jesus movement Back in 1970.
I too was a child of Jesus Revolution parents.
I remember even at 4 years old the presence of God so powerfully during that great Revival and Awakening.
At that conference, your dad saying the song Sometimes Hallelujah and it's stoked up my heart with love for Jesus.
I listen to that song on YouTube when I am in distress and trying to go to sleep and that song just puts me right to sleep.

About 15 years ago I was a new Registered Nurse at a local hospital and I worked on a floor that had very ill people and was very hard work. Before work I used to get on my knees and sometimes on my face before God. I remembered your Dad's song "Holy, holy, holy." and would sometimes listen to that several times in a row and it would bring me into the presence of God before I would face a challenging day. When I would arrive at work I felt God's peace and presence. That song is anointed! 🔥🕊🔥

Great interview, Alisa! Your dad made a huge impact on me and my husband after we came to the Lord in 1971. My husband, being a musician himself, was so encouraged to find our kind of music in the Christian world, as we’d given up all the old stuff, the Beatles, etc. because it had such a hold on us. I had come out of the hippie drug scene. (I didn’t realize he was your father until quite awhile after I began listening to your podcasts.) Many of your podcasts have helped us greatly because one of our adult children, also a musician and producer, has gone the way of Progressive Christianity. You and your guests give us much encouragement and hope. Thanks for serving our LORD and King.

I recently (two months ago) discovered your podcasts through a nurse that I work with (I'm a hospital chaplain). Your podcasts are so enlightening and encouraging. Today, while having some time at the hospital I decided to look up your YouTube podcast and WOW! Church Girard is your dad! Amazing!!! He is definitely the pioneer with his group, Love Song from the 70's Jesus Movement and the up and coming Christian music scene. I was in high school and college in the 70's and his music was so inspiring and worshipful. I still listen to Love Song and now his daughter! Terrific.

Love your apologetics and appreciate your emphasis on exposing Progressive Christianity.

I'm 70 and became a Christian in college. In the late 70s i think it was i went to a concert of your dad's. It was the first Christian concert I'd ever been to. I listened to Lay Your Burdens Down constantly! I wrote your dad a fan letter telling him how much his music meant to me, and I was so surprised that he actually wrote back thanking me. This is so wonderful to see this!!

So I got saved in 1978 when a friend brought me to the Vineyard Church. I believe it was in Resada, California, afternoon service in a methodist church. Correct me if I'm wrong. But someone gave me a copy of Chuck's music and I listen to it nonstop over and over and over again because It really ministered to me. Just so pure. I remember Keith Green doing special music as well. I moved over to Jack Hayford's church and then down to Long Beach and went to Chuck Smith's church for a year. Back in Michigan now but those days were some of the best! Love this conversation with Chuck Girard.😍

I was at Explo 72 in Dallas and I had a number of your Dad's vinyls at the time....very inspirational dude. Christmas 1972, I was in a Bus Accident that killed 19 kids from Woodlawn Baptist Church, Austin Texas. The accident happened outside of Ft Sumner NM. Your Dad's music and love song helped me in a lot of ways back then. Thank you very much.
