Girl, I'm going to share a life-changing hack for readers/collectors of books. Are you ready?
(I'm fully aware of that my idea probably isn't original and that you probably already know about this, but I wanted to be dramatic!)
Here it is: an unhaul shelf!
Works like this: when you're done reading a book (or you're going over your TBR titles) and you know your heart you won't revisit that book or you're not going to pick it up (in the case of an unread book), you pick up that book and place it on the unhaul shelf. Once you've collected a few books there (in my case it's usually five) you take them out pronto. No going over the books there to reminisce. Just pick up the books and get them out of the house. I keep mine pages out (instead of spine out) so I won't be tempted to go over them when I do visit the unhaul shelf.
It is the best thing I ever did.

Oh man, I grew up loving the sensation of reading from physical books but I also agree that reading digitally is so much more comfortable and convenient (and cheaper). While I don't read physical books anymore, it still pains me that my bookshelf is looking rather bare so I decided that future physical copies are going to be works that I have completed and absolutely love. I also think that embossing the inside is a really cool idea, and I might consider getting one for not only my books but for my journals and sketchbooks as well! Thanks for sharing your experience!!

I'm an English teacher and I organize my books at home the same way I do at school - by genre and then by author. I, too, have a larger TBR pile (both personal and professional) than I thought I did!

My library is sorted mostly by when I got the first book from the author on one shelf. On my more open shelf’s I’ve sort of got them sorted by colour, in so much the mostly white books are with each other(still keeping series in the right order) and using singles to create gradient of colours. It sort of reduces the visual clutter and I have a visual memory so it helps me find books to read.

Thanks for sharing. I’ve read over 30 books yet this year and I must say The Midnight Library was the most beautiful one so far!

Love your bookshelves and sorting! Such a relaxing and satisfying feeling :) within the last couple months i have sorted my 2 bookshelves and now taking a more sustainable and minimalist approach. Going to my library for books from now on instead of buying - i was shocked even new releases are in my local libraries so i do not need to buy them! No longer will buy books unless i read one and i know i will want my own to read forever lol. Any books i kept i re read them and any that i would love to read a 3rd i kept. Any unread are at my top list to read. Encourage everyone to check online for local libraries first for a book they want before buying :)

So happy when I saw this! I was literally just trying to organize my BuJo/craft/drawing supplies on my lunch break and thought of going back to watch your most recent organization video! ☀️

This is sooo satisfying!!
I always organizing by author first bcs I usually buy books from the author that I love, then by publisher bcs they usually have their own different book sizes, and last by their genre especially for the non-fictions.

Good job, I also like shelves with stacks of books (vertical and horizontal) plus decor lol. Also, I was amazed-smiling at the impressive number of books that came off that corner shelf unit!

I love this! I'm in the process of moving apartments, and I'm really trying to focus on the positive side of being able to refresh and update my shelf organization (if the actual packing of my very sizable collection doesn't break me first 😅). Over the years, I've organized by everything from author name, color, and genre, and right now I have one case for series collections, one for standalones, and then a big catchall case for nonfiction, textbooks, and everything from growing up.
And I've definitely gotten creative with some of my shelf storage over the years, but I'm going to be adding some floating shelves to give myself more options. Although my TBR pile is reaching a threatening level and it might be enough, lol

Loved this Caitlin! I separate my books by author name in the categories of Read, Unread and Classics. I have one bookshelf dedicated to the full series available of some favorite authors and some of those series’ have a mixture of read and read. So far, it’s working for me. (It also helped me find a couple duplicate purchases 😔 like you found today).

My books are organized by color but I have different shelves of fiction and no-fiction. Also, I sepparate the books that I want to read next and a currently reading pile so they are easier to reach (mood reader struggles 😅).
