I really like the music and the anime... Toshizo Hijikata is a beautiful character!!!

Some more historical information: Hijikata Toshizō (土方 歳三?, May 31, 1835 -- June 20, 1869) was the vice-commander of Shinsengumi, a great swordsman and a talented Japanese military leader who resisted the Meiji Restoration.

In the anime Chizuru is the heroine of the series. She comes to Kyoto in search of her missing father, Kodo Yukimura, a practioner of Western medicine. Unknown to Chizuru, her father under orders from the Shogunate develops the Water of Life, an elixir that increases the drinker's healing abilities, speed, and strength yet could turn the drinker into a mindless killing monster called a Rasetsu. At the beginning of the series, she witnesses a fight between Rasetsu and members of the Shinsengumi. The Shinsengumi take her into custody and, once learning she is the daughter of the doctor they are searching for, decide to keep her close at hand. Chizuru follows the Shinsengumi in their battles to help the shogunate. Chizuru has a secret unknown to herself: she is in fact a pureblood member of the Oni Ichizoku (the Demon Clan), and the head of the Oni of the East is of Yukimura descent. Because Oni have scattered and declined in numbers over the centuries, Chikage Kazama seeks her out to create a lineage of pureblooded Oni.
Hijikata is the Vice-commander of the Shinsengumi and makes most of the Shinsengumi's decisions. He is called Oni-fukuchou (Demon Vice-commander) and is both feared and respected by his men. He is also often referred to as "Toshi". Hijikata is the one who brought Chizuru back to the Shinsengumi headquarters. He is responsible for her welfare, and even though he acts as if this were to his dismay, he cares for Chizuru's safety and is often shown protecting her during battles. In the last episodes he declares his love to Chizuru.
Hijikata drinks the Water of Life and becomes a Rasetsu in order to defeat Chikage.

YES FUCKING PERFECT!! LOVE THIS SO MUCH! I love Hakuoki and Within Temptation! Since day 1've shipped Chizuru and Hijikata. Sure he was rough around the edges but he warmed up to Chizuru and eventually risked his life for her. I admit I cried every time these two had their moments together. During the final episode of season two, ugh so many fucking feels. Hijikata had been so focus on his work, it took him a long time to finally acknowledge Chizuru's feelings and vow to always stay by his side. That right there is loyalty even when she knew she would be sacrificing herself. She did it for the man she loves. She didn't care he was a "Fury" because she was worried about him rather than herself. PURE GOLD! <3 Chizu x Hiji <3

Omg this anime is the best one out there. The cherry blossom part made me cry (actually the whole amv did). This is one of my favorite anime series including claymore and basilisk. I love it ❤❤❤❤👍👍👍👍
