Located in its own square in the town centre, the magnificent stone church of St Lazarus (Agios Lazaros) is one of the most remarkable examples of Byzantine architecture in Cyprus and lies over the tomb of Saint Lazarus.

Saint Lazarus came to Cyprus after being resurrected and later ordained as Bishop of Kition and lived in the town for around 30 years and buried here after his death.

The Church of St Lazarus was reputedly built over the tomb of Lazarus.

Thank you for taking that water bottle out of the tomb. The other things are there because the tomb is sacred.
