You need to hire a business consultant to take into account factors such as no paid holiday or sick leave, medicolegal insurance costs, CPD costs, time spent doing CPD, unpaid time following up results / recalls and even medicolegal risk and factor that all into the equation to produce a true take home FTE pay. Actually, my partner, a business consultant, did just that in 5 minutes and in his opinion the real take home remuneration of an urban GP, taking into account all factors, not just the actual fee per patient, is worse than that of an average mid level business consultant with a BA working in a bank and that even goes for private billing.

Lol $170k per annum is a fricken damn joke for 9-10 years of training. My friend is a graduate software engineer at Google who makes $140k with bonuses. I know of graduates at Optiver making $200k+ with bonuses 1st year out of university.
