How To Fix Your Forehand: Step 2 - Fix It With Progressions

In this video I show you the second step necessary to fix your forehand.

The first step is to identify the technical problem you have and I showed you a pro player case-study in the previous video.

But what do you do once you have identified your technical problem?

This step is “the secret sauce” and not doing this properly will destroy your chances of success even if you have the right information on what you need to change technically!

Great advice on how to fix problems. I have the same exact issue ... taking the racquet too far back.

wait a sec people, bad tech bc of large back swing? suggest to think for yourself, her natural swing was already good and more powerful, however she was sometimes miss timing the point where she started the acceleration(it's rather complicated here even for youtubers). But if you/she wanted to completely change the stroke, than go ahead and prepare to suffer.
Anyways the progressions are well exemplified,
thanx for the video and effort Florian.

Great video! Thank you. This is exactly what my students need to hear: slow, step by step process.

You really got the technical points, and you should know another points is hitting timing. Lena still lost a couple of forehands not from her technic after improvement.It was from wrong hitting timing, anyway too rush to take the shot.

@2:10
To shorten the backswing, think of it is almost a half-volley backswing.
Think of the tip of the racquet pointing "outwards" (toward right side of court) for as long as possible. This is an exaggeration to help the technique change.

Do you need to teach to also focus with hitting from inside to out? Great lesson. Thanks

Do You think it is the most objective to measure her forehand speed/spin in match situation? The main difference I would see there (as this fashionable technique of so called "ATP style forehand" is designed for in my oppinion) is the significant increase of spin. Julia probably didn´t change technique and her decrease of avg speed is bigger than the increase of avg forehand speed of Lena. This video anyway shows how the change technique. If the direction You lead Lena into is so great is another question.

its seems so obvious to me that this is the only way to make changes... but most say yes i can do it now but this isnt the same as match as if to rubbish the practice they are doing...therefore completly missing the point.. i mean if you cant shadow it correctly then youll never be able to do it..if you cant hit it from a drop feed then forget about doing it at full speed under pressure... its amazing how many students feel shadowing..drop feeding ect is somehow beneath them..maybe its an ego thing...

From a technical standpoint, her backswing is still a bit too far back and she is not using enough wrist snap but rather too much forearm. Should be unit turn, racket drop, wrist windup, wrist snap and follow through.

Did you focus on both technical changes at the same time? I am asking this as I think my forehand back swing is a bit too big. However, I can implement the late hitting concept as my forehand is not that big. I just think that if I reduced the size of my back swing I would generate even more power with late hitting concept. Would you agree?
