Even Dima does a lot of strange and really debatable things, I hear his perfomance for many times unlike other participants, including laureates. At some moment I caught my face with a smile. He is a true Musician no matter what

This ingenious, authentic musician hopelessly overtaxed the jury. On top of that, he's Russian. Apparently, in 2024 this combination was simply too much of a good thing to be able to make it to the final. In competitions like this, one should rather not go over the top to reach the top. – I hope to see and hear Dmitry perform in concert halls around the world soon!

Absolutely spectacular ! With this he’s deserved to be the winner 🥇

I find this performance to be not only extremely original but also full of delight and pleasure. It is a pity that he didn’t win or make the final round. Shame on the judges

The most mischievous and playful interpretation of Mozart's 4th that I've ever heard. I hope Mozart sat up in his grave and applauded!

Very personal approach and musicianship. Unfortunately, it doesn't work in competitions, unless there is some political reason, like we see often these days. This kind of playing do not fit for a jury, where evryone has a different view and taste and they agree only on a common, scholar basis. This phrasing might go to far for them. It is sometimes the case for me and this has nothing to do with the fact of being russian. I find it interesting but far from any competition requirements. There is a marge to freedom of expression in these competitions. Personally, I have never liked the idea of these contests, even when I have went trough.

The performance by Dmitry Smirnov is absolutely the composer's (Mozart Himself) intention. What a superb golden classical era interpretation.

He should have been the first prize for it. The problem is that all the juries completely underates the real Mozartian playing which is more simplified and a strong emphasis on operatic musical rythm and elegance.

The only thing that lacks is the execution of performing it in A= 432hz to make it the utmost Mozart musical Authenticity, If the competition allows it to do so.

In conclusion, GENUINE STYLE OF PLAYING = PURE TECHNIQUE! 💯👏

Finally the entire Concert! Congrats to the Orchestra and the Conductor. Perfect and caring basis for the soloists! Dimitri Smirnov's performance to me is far beyond of anything which you can expect. Made me cry... Really. It is a shame that he wasn't appointed for the finals. Political reasons, I guess. Anyhow, he will make an extraordinary career.

Such a special musician. If only there were more like him. It’s a lonely world for originality — sadly. If I were on the panel I would have fought tooth and nail for him. Why on earth is there a stiff orchestra behind him with an even more rigid conductor. It’s bizarre.

I think he had the best 1st round by far. This baroque style thought is interesting it makes the violin so hard. You cant hear the instrument sing and it also lacks the brilliancy that Mozart needs.

It’s not his fault to pass to the semi-finals.

Honestly I'm glad he didn't win... I appreciate his playing, it's totally unique but at the same time I feel like it's just too much and that he's breaking the phrasing instead of shaping it.
Playing like this it's extremely complicated for the orchestra and it has obvious consequences. It becomes really difficult to feel WELL if the performance it's constantly unstable for an entire movement... Sometimes it's just too cloying.
Orchestra and conductor did an awesome job listening to the soloist but the performance in general sounds weird.
He has a lot of fantasy for sure, so go on and listen to the performance, you'll learn a lot.

Great technique but rather pedestrian choice of repertoire
