I was listening to this with my girlfriend and she loved it and then kissed me very passionately saying that this song is so amazing. Then went spent all night sitting outside watching the sky and stars. A moment I’ll never forget.

No matter how many times I enjoy this song... I always get this feeling that the lyrics at the beginning will be....

"I was walkin'"
"Down a one-way street"
"Just a looking...."
"For something to eat!"

But of course... that's not it....

No matter how much I try
No matter the pills I take to sleep
I keep drifting back to this song
A long and bleeding wrong
I wish I could relive this moment
A time between when I thought
A jolly 'ol man would cure me
A season I thought would purify me

The child has grown
My memories have grown old
I still remember days of smelling roasted chocolate cookies
Baking in ovens
I thought only happy families shared
Beaten, bruised, yet I dared

In my books, this is the second greatest pop hit of all time.  I rate (and only slightly) Toto's "Africa" higher.

Both of these songs are common walkman songs when I run, swim or lift weights.

I am literally in heaven at the end.

These were the days when you had no choice but wait for the weekly chart rundown! Going from one radio station to another chasing songs! GOOD TIMES 😅
