MELLOHAWK Logistics is pleased to announce another great edition of the LOGISTICS IN MOTION webinar series. Our guest, Darcy Ferron from Export Development Canada (EDC), will present an overview of what EDC, Canada’s official Export Credit Agency, is doing to help Canadian businesses penetrate and mitigate the risks of exporting to South American markets during the pandemic, with a particular focus on Brazil. EDC’s latest initiatives will be highlighted, including an economic outlook and EDC’s perspective from the ground in both Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo.

Peter Hawkins is Co-Chair of the Brazil Canada Chamber of Commerce (BCCC) and co-owner of MELLOHAWK Logistics. He was named Mississauga Business Person of the Year (MBOT) 2018, CGLCC Exporter of the Year 2019, and is a 2020 Nominee for ACCES Employment’s Walk of Fame award (winners to be announced September 22, 2020). He is Chair of the Professional Advisory Committee (PAC) for the International Business Program at the Pilon School for Business at Sheridan College and is a member of the Board for the Centre for Global Enterprise at the Schulich School at York University. Peter is a volunteer mentor and champion of newcomers, new grads, women entrepreneurs, and people re-entering the workforce. He speaks often about Trade Accelerator Programs, International Trade, Doing Business in Brazil and Workplace Professionalism at Colleges, Chambers of Commerce, and associations.

Mr. Ferron represents EDC at headquarters as Chief Representative, EMEA & LATAM. Previously, he represented BMO Capital Markets as Vice-President, Trade Finance, leading business development activities for Eastern Canada. Mr. Ferron is also the former Director of International Operations at the Canadian Commercial Corporation (CCC) and the former Director of Business Development at the Forum for International Trade Training (FITT), establishing new and expanding current partnerships with sector councils, associations, government, private enterprise, and educational partners. Mr. Ferron has played a key role in numerous projects over the years, including authoring an Export Finance Guide for EDC as well as providing foreign buyer risk assessment training for Russia’s Vnesheconombank while with International Financial Consulting Ltd. (IFCL). In 2005-06 he completed an executive interchange with the Department of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development (DFATD) as Senior Trade Finance Specialist, advising the Minister on complex trade policy issues and transactions, including their legal, financial, and political aspects. He is also an experienced trainer in trade finance for university-level learning. Mr. Ferron holds a Bachelor of Commerce (International Business) degree from the University of Ottawa and is a Certified International Trade Professional (CITP). In 2011 he completed the prestigious HEC Montréal / McGill University Executive MBA and now sits on the Advisory Board of the program. He is also an elected member of the Board of Directors at the Brazil Canada Chamber of Commerce and the former Treasurer of the Board at Habitat for Humanity Canada.
