Geez, I love you guys! I have a 2002 Ford Ranger and you're always showing me how to fix it! I think I know your little red Ranger better than I know my own truck...lol About to order the shift motor and the window motor should be in today. Let's see...fuel pump, MAF sensor, IAC valve, plugs, plug wires, coil pack. You keep my busy!

I received the shift motor, and installed it as you directly: very easy! The wire support bracket didn’t fit over the new shift motor, so I secured the wires with zip ties to another wire harness. Be careful not to damage the ground wire when you are installing it in the new wire harness. Thanks for your help!

2001 Ranger 5-Speed: Unfortunately, the part linked to this video is out of stock. I ended up buying a re-manufactured one at a local auto parts store. The triangle pin did not match up to the setting on the transfer case, and it was obviously in a very slightly different position than the old one I took off when I looked at both. I plugged the new one into the electrical harness while it was hanging down on the ground. I turned the ignition key until the 2WD and 4WD indicator lights came on in the dashboard, but did not start the truck. I turned the dashboard switch to 4WD until the indicator light came on. Then turned it back to 2WD until the indicator showed 2WD, and turned off the ignition (the transfer case was in the 2WD position). The replacement motor was now lined up correctly. Unlike in the video, I did unsnap the plastic harness securing clip (with the metal bracket) off of the old motor harness, and slid it onto the new one, and the bracket fit correctly. The replacement motor bracket at the end of the motor housing looked new, but the hole to bolt it to the truck was drilled in the wrong place. I drilled a new hole in the bracket so that it would attach to the mount on the truck. There was no other "brown wire" on my model Ranger as described in some of the comments. The harness as shown in the video was the only electrical connection needed to be disconnected.

How do you test the motor to see if it works?

it would be nice if you mentioned how to get the motor on if the shaft is not in the same position.

Way to do a half-assed video. You do not tell us how to get the brown wire out of the shift motor connector.

Hi, my trucks transfer case makes a rubbing wining noise in two wheel and four weel drive. It has had trouble shifting between the two a few times and so I'm wondering if the transfer case shift motor could make be making that sound? Or is it more likely broken gears, clutch or loose chain??? Thanks

You all did not discuss how to remove the Brown Clutch wire from the Shift Motor Harness. Please redo that, or at least explain it for us

Is there a reason that you didnt reinstall the bracket that holds the harness? I just replaced mine with a new one and the bracket doesnt fit without adjusting the plastic cover slightly. Is this okay to do?

1A Auto I thought your supposed to put the transmission in neutral in order for it to disengage off the key.

I have removed all 4 bolts from the motor but it seems to be stuck on the key way shaft. Any advice?

Why does your transfer case not have the key coming out that lines up with the motor? My key is in an orientation that doesn't line up with the motor. If I try turning it, it's snaps back like it's spring loaded.

How can you tell if it's the motor or the control module?
