The second sentence of the Gospel of John 1:1 is:

και ο λογος ην προς τον θεον

This sentence is translated literally as:

"And the Word was with (the) God."

In English, we don't need the second "the" (τον).

Grammar
We see our first direct object here. θεον is in the direct object (accusative), because it is in the prepositional phrase προς. The definitive article ("the") that agrees with the direct object θεον is τον.

We can see a pattern. Two masculine nouns and the definitive article "the" show the endings for male subjects and direct objects.

The big problem with John 1:1 is Genesis 1:1. the "logos" is not in the beginning with YHWH
