Releasing Singles vs. Albums vs. Eps | FAQ Friday - Warren Huart: Produce Like A Pro

In today’s digital download and streaming age, when should an artist release a single vs. an EP vs. a full album?

The first question I have for you is “who are you?”

Pop artists can have a single with one message and then follow that up with something completely different. They’re hitting it out of the park with each song.

A band on the other hand, let’s say from a small town in Wisconsin, may have something to say about growing up in the midwest. For me, bands have a really strong identity. for example everybody knows the Beatles are from Liverpool!

Agree 100% Warren on what level to print your mix at.  The definitive answer is "No Clipping".  The mastering engineer can turn up, or down, then make their adjustments and tweaks.  Mastering can, and will, decide on the final RMS level, LU level, and LUFS levels.  As long as there is No Clipping on the final mix they have the "freedom" to do their thing.  Great advice again from Warren Huart.
