How can I get into the health and safety industry, this is a question I see all the time on the IOSH forums and other health and safety forums.
I thought i would do a quick video on my route into the industry and share some hints and tips as to what i did to land my first health and safety job.

Hi Will ! Currently I'm working as a H&S officer and it's been about 10months. I went into a job without qualification/prior experience.

I have no IGC or any other form of qualification. I am about to enrol into a nebosh course. I thought It would be best if i was to skip IGC and go straight to diploma. I feel hesitant enrolling and specializing in "oil & gas" or "construction" or "fire safety" as this may reduce my options for future business careers. So i was thinking I would like to go straight for nebosh international diploma for occupational H&S as this is more of a general standard that all employees would be looking for?

My ultimate objective is to have the necessary "competence"/"Attractive" CV to work in different countries/join other Health & Safety companies.

If possible, could you please provide constructive feedback? I have no one around me to give advise and certainly not many ppl in H&S to ask questions about unfortunately.

Hi Will, 52yr old Australian in Australia coming to the UK in 2024. Currently a H&S Rep and am going to do the General Cert starting next month. I plan on doing other study, short courses and was wondering if you had any suggestions? I was going to do Fire awareness, CDM awareness, Behavioral Safety etc. I feel not being from there I will need to pad my resume with extras to give myself a good chance.
