Don't Be Afraid of Making Mistakes in Spanish | My Story

In today's video, I share my personal story of learning Spanish and why you shouldn't be afraid of making mistakes. Trust me, I've been there! Whether you're just starting out or looking to improve, making mistakes is key to fast progress. I learned this firsthand after a small (but embarrassing) pronunciation mistake with the word "almohada" stuck with me forever.

So true, but when you’re a tourist, in my experience, natives are always too kind and so happy about you making an attempt to speak their language and rarely correct unless you’re around for some time and ask them to. I’ve had to get embarrassed myself and learn… on mistakes I made on even on things I knew but spoke wrongly just to be quick and not have people waiting to finish my sentence (eg. Using infinitive instead of the correct form of verb 😅 or wrong conjugation, gender etc. so many).

I have come across native speakers who just look at you as if they can't understand you, but they do understand. Many native speakers will not bother if you don't speak perfectly. At least I get that impression, but I love the language so I keep it moving.

Back when I first started learning I was at my wife’s family’s party and I made the mistake of saying “estoy caliente” instead of “tengo calor” bc I felt warm inside the house and I was kind of blushing even before I said what I said 😂. I saw one of my wife’s cousins and her aunt look at each other and start laughing and my father in law was messing with me. We were only together maybe 2-3 years at the time. So many situations like this over the years has to be the hardest part of learning a new language

Buen dia Rocky, En los últimos años he estado intentando aprender español y hablarlo correctamente. Creo que mi problema es en realidad la pronunciación. Entiendo más de lo que puedo hablar. Cuando uso lo que aprendí para intentar pronunciar ante otras personas en países latinoamericanos, no me entienden. Creo que es la forma en que recito porque me criaron hablando de una manera. Tal vez tenga que colocar mi boca y mi lengua de otra manera para recitar y sonar fluido. Any tips on how to position our mouths or tongues when speaking from English to Spanish? Please advise or create a content that maybe helpful.
