Spherical Roller Bearings

Spherical roller bearings do not accommodate axial expansion within the bearing itself. When a spherical bearing is mounted in a plummer block housing to act as a floating bearing unit, it must move axially in its housing. Fretting corrosion can occur rapidly between the spherical bearing outside diameter and the inside of the housing, creating high resistance to axial movement, and causing load transfer through one set of rollers.
