'Taking candy from a baby!' Panda mom steals snack from cub

Mothers love their children, but some less than others. Just ask Qi Yuan, a mommy panda who was recently caught taking food from her baby’s mouth.

The interesting scene was captured at the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding in southwest China’s Sichuan Province on Saturday. The baby panda cried out loud when her mother wrestled a treat from her mouth. Good thing all mothers are NOT like Qi Yuan.

A lot of panda lovers misunderstand that panda cubbies can digest solid food right after birth. Please read my following explanations & do some research on your own re: Developmental Stages of Mammals, & the Physiological Development of Pandas.
The piece of apple shown in this video is premature for a young cubby to eat & digest.

Bei Bei at the SNZ had to go through an operation to get rid of some solid food stuck in its intestine at the end of 2016 ( or 2015) !!! It wasn't ready to consume such hard food yet, his Mom Mei Xiang would take it away from him whenever she caught sight of it. However, that was the one time that mom couldn't stop it before disaster struck. Luckily Bei Bei recovered well from the operation .

Your title is extremely misleading. It shows that you lack basic understanding of the developmental stages of pandas & mammals.
The piece of apple is too hard for a young panda cubby to digest.
This cubby looks like it is only about 6 - 8 months old. It is still growing its baby teeth. It hasn't got its permanent teeth yet. That's why panda babies need to feed on mom's milk until they are weaned around 2 years old.
They can start chewing softer bamboo leaves around 1.2 years old, but not bamboo stems until much later (maybe 1.8+ years). Needless to say, an apple is too hard, damaging & dangerous for the young cubby's digestive system.

Mommy is trying to protect her cubby from possible choking & indigestion. She keeps being alert about what her baby is putting in its mouth & prevents it from accidentally swallowing the apple too hard for it to digest at this point. She is being a very responsible, loving mom.

Mom is being vigilant by preventing the cubby from possible choking or worse, indigestion & clogging of its alimentary canal or intestine. Mom is very responsible & loving, watching closely of what her baby puts into its mouth, & stopping it when she detects potential danger. She should not be viewed by ill-informed humans as a greedy "food snatcher" from her baby !!!
In this video, the cubby was unable to cut or bite through the slice of hard apple ( @0:05 - 0:15 ) because its baby teeth hasn't fully grown yet. At this stage, the cubby may suffer some chipping or cracking of its baby teeth if it keeps biting on the hard solid food. The baby teeth needs a chance to stabilize its growth before it tackles such a challenging job.

Panda cubbies are meant to nurse on their mothers' milk to thrive until at least 18 months of age. Then they can start eating some bamboo leaves, but they won't digest the bamboo stems properly until their permanent teeth are fully grown & functional.
Just like humans, all mammals eat liquid food (milk ) until they have a full set of teeth, otherwise their nutrition needs would not be adequately met. All mammalian mothers know when to wean their babies, & weaning takes a period of time, not overnight. So the process of transitioning from liquid (milk ) to solid food for pandas occurs some time during their 19th to 30th month in life.

Pandas are mammals. Human babies cannot eat solid food until about 6 -7 years old when they start having their baby teeth. And they must be given soft baby food from the time they wean from milk to the time they can start solid food. Otherwise they may choke to death.

All mammalian moms know when their babies could transition from liquid milk to solid food, so do panda moms. ( To be continued...)
