Now for today's video: I am a huge fan of (mostly old) Sonata Arctica. Tony Kakko is just flawless in his voice. Damn I miss Jani Liimatainen on guitar though, time to move on I guess 😂 the "new" guy is great.

Oh my gosh, thanks for pointing out this video to me. Pure brilliance in song choosing and performance. Back in the days (i.e. their first four albums), Sonata Arctica were SO great (with White Pearl, Black Oceans being one of the best songs of all time in my eyes), such a shame they took another path.

I've been taking singing lessons for over a year now because one of my dreams is to sing power metal and my own lyrics.
Would you give me advice on how to achieve those high notes that still sound pretty natural, chesty, full, masculine...?
I still struggle achieving that because I flip to falsetto and end up sounding pretty cartonish hahaha
I know there's mixed voice, belting, head voice... But singing high like you do for example in 3:12 is just not clear in my mind, I have no idea how to do it, how it feels or even how it would sound in my own voice.
I don't know if you have classes that I can check on or schedule, but I would really appreciate advice from someone that sings like you do.

Really nice as always!!! im working on Full moon and i know how difficult its to sing Tony Kakkos range, at least in this song you can find many high notes in the middle of the verses, as when it says "Find a barn which to sleep in, but can HIDEE ANYMORE", its surprised at least to me, to find the way out to reach that hight notes.
as a humble "singer" and lover and "listeniser"(man who listen (?) im spanish speaker, sorry 🤣) of power metal, i would like to say, if you will do another part, you can find the way to be more nostalgic with some interpretation, cause Tony has that nostalgic atmosphere in his songs, beyond the power in his voice, difficult i know!!
