I think Pixar is doing a phenomenal job representing our identity and traditions with authenticity. The colors are exactly the same that you could witness in a pantheon on the Day of the Dead in Michoacan.
The people have their purhepecha features, very real.
The flowers of cempasuchitl are so authentic that I can smell them from here. The sugar skulls, the bread of death, the copal, the candles, the altars. All made with their real characteristics and their purhepecha meaning.
Dante, the dog is a xoloescuintle the national dog, with the attitude so characteristic of them.
The mix of pre-Hispanic and Spanish cultures is noticeable.
Although there are some things that are not as accurate, as in reality in tradition there is no world of the dead or anything like it, and there are some Mexican stereotypes.
But in general this is a great homage to the Mexican culture and one of its traditions with more meaning, more beautiful, and ancient.
Finnaly a studio so important as Pixar puts its eyes on my beautiful Mexico to show it to the world.

HI! as a mexican I have my concerns about this movie being too similar to Book of Life and specially 'Dia de Muertos' (a mexican animated film that will come out just a few weeks after Coco), but I have to admit that Pixar is doing a stellar job at representing mexican culture as a whole and not just the Day of the Dead holiday so I'd like to point out some of the lesser seen details I noticed in this trailer:
For once, the architecture in the land of the dead is on point. The entrance is reminiscent of prehispanic architecture (the heads inspired by mayan and aztec art). The metro station looks insanely similar to the Post Palace in Mexico City, which in itself has a special architecture style from the porfirian era of Mexico (it's historically accurate!) and the Department of Family Reunions has it's walls made of Cantera (a stone that can be found in most of mexican old buildings, especially at downtowns).
There is an axolotl at the entrance to the land of the Dead (look left, its blue and purple). There are street sellers in the metro station, a living alebrije (mexican art figures that consist of combining parts of diverse animals) and most important: there is a green bench. My fellow mexicans, you know this green bench, you have sat in a green bench, they are everywhere, it's insane the put one here. Just after the doors open, look right, you'll see it.

Overall, Pixar, you are doing it right.

I am so excited for Coco. The world building is really pushing the limits of animation in a great way. Thanks for the video, mrcheezypop.

Hello from Mexico Max!!!! This movie looks so amazing! The city that you can see there looks just like Guanajuato, one of the most beautiful and typical mexican-style cities in Mexico. Also, it is interesting to see where they take the story. The original sense or legend of the Day of the Dead in Mexico is that the dead and our ancestors come to our world for one night. So, it is really cool they're going the opposite way and have Miguel go to their world. Love to have a chat with you if you like. Also, I'm going to D23, love to meet you there!!! (Also: Great videos on Oswald!!)

Prediction: They change the Three Caballeros ride in the Mexico pavilion to a COCO themed ride if the movie does well

I love how Disney explores cultures and traditions that I would have never thought about researching on my own. Some of it doesn't seem that interesting from an outside perspective but when Disney makes a movie about it, it makes you want to learn more. Moana is a recent example of this with Polynesian culture and then there's little nods to different cultures here and there like the lanterns in Tangled that are similar to the lantern festival in Thailand.

Hi!! As a mexican I was a bit doubtful when I heard pixar was making a movie about Día de Muertos because everything everyone does when depicting mexico is Día de Muertos and I thought it was so played out and there's so much to mexican culture than that one tradition.
But then I realized why it's always Día de Muertos, because it's awesome (my favorite holiday) and people should know about it. I like the fact that a lot of things are spot on like the singer and the altar the kid makes.
And as for the colors, it really is like that here on Día de Muertos. Everything is colorful and happy, you should come visit one day.

I am not ready to let go of Moana being so amazing for me, at the moment I don't think any Disney movie for a while will over take it, but this Coco movie looks stunning and I can tell I am going to love this too, the feelings are going to be so strong in this. I cannot wait to see it on the big screen
