My college education was pretty much the certification. Not doing both.

I’d rather do hands on labs, projects and get some skills.

I got incredibly lucky and was thrown into the Cyber security world. I am currently studying for my Security+, but I need to study more seriously. I need to schedule my exam, then it will force me into studying for it. This video is definitely has great info! I like that you mentioned the LinkedIn search for certificates, and I think it's important to look at what the job listings in your area are asking for (network, Linux, SIEM, AV, etc...) And get familiar with that and try to help identify a path you may enjoy doing.

I'm hoping that having connections and certifications will assist in my job hunt. I'm actively studying the Security+ and practicing hacking. I have many friends who are in the field of cybersecurity. Finances are just not there, andn won't be in the near future to make getting a degree possible. Good luck to everyone trying to break-in! I am a recent Cyber Security Analyst graduate, Google Cyber Security certificate, Security+ CompTIA certificate, familiar with plenty of tools/softwares/applications. Yet no luck landing a job interview, let alone a job offer itself 😔

Without being too much of a downer, just want to express my experience to this point. I got a degree in digital forensics with no cybersecurity experience about 1 1/2 years ago. Lack of specific experience put me behind the power curve. (Internship got canceled due to the lockdowns) i had a QA analyst role like 10 years ago.(almost not relevant at this point) So decided to get some certs. Grabbed A+ and security+ within the last year, still nothing. Now I reenrolled in school specifically for cybersecurity. Guess we will see where that takes me. Revamped resume about 20 different ways in different styles and formats highlighting all different key points. Still nada

I've been through this before coming out of College with a Computer Science degree and more than anything employers want job experience. I've been doing Desktop support for about 8 years and I can probably pass a security exam if needed. My question is are there projects or home labs you'd recommend I can do on my own as a place holder for actually security experience?

I get my Associates Degree and graduate next month. I have had no luck with internships or “entry level” job. They ALL want experience. When I started years ago I thought like every field a degree would land me a job. Now I’m being told on top of spending tons of money, I need to turn around and spend more on certifications and I “may” get my foot in the door. If I had known this before or when I started i would have never wasted my money and time doing this degree. Not to mention i also started my Bachelor’s.

i have tech support experience, sec+ casp, ceh and CHFI and managerial experience but no cybersecurity experience. No body will hire me because i have no cyber security XP. I also have a BS in comp info systems

Ive been holding a degree in cuber security and computer forensics for almost 3 years. And ive had no luck what so ever. Pretty much given up on this, and im gonna plan to start learning a more hands son pathway
