for those who dont know

The Tyrannosaurus rex, often called T. rex, is one of the most famous dinosaurs that ever lived. Its name means "Tyrant Lizard King, " and it truly lived up to that title. T. rex lived during the late Cretaceous period, about 68 to 66 million years ago, mainly in what is now North America. Fossils have been found in places like Montana, South Dakota, and Canada. It was one of the last non-avian dinosaurs to exist before the mass extinction event that wiped out most life on Earth.

T. rex was a massive meat-eating dinosaur. It could grow up to 40 feet long and stand about 12 feet tall at the hips. It weighed around 9 tons, which is about as much as an elephant or a school bus. One of its most powerful features was its huge skull, which could be over 5 feet long. Inside its mouth were about 60 strong teeth, each shaped like a banana and as long as 12 inches. These teeth were perfect for crushing bones, and its bite was one of the strongest of any land animal ever.

Even though it had very small arms, the T. rex was still a fierce predator. Its arms were only about 3 feet long—too short to reach its mouth—but they were very strong and had two sharp claws. Scientists believe the arms may have helped the T. rex stand up from a lying position or hold prey while it bit down. Its powerful back legs helped it run up to 12 to 20 miles per hour, which is very fast for such a huge animal. It also had a long, heavy tail that helped it balance when it moved quickly.

T. rex had amazing senses. It had large eye sockets and binocular vision, meaning it could see depth and hunt with great accuracy. Its sense of smell was also extremely strong—possibly better than that of today’s bloodhounds. Scientists think it used this ability to find food from miles away. Some experts believe it was both a hunter and a scavenger, meaning it could chase down prey or steal meals from other dinosaurs.

Today, the T. rex continues to be a favorite among scientists and the public. Museums around the world have T. rex skeletons on display, like “Sue, ” the largest and most complete T. rex fossil ever found. It has also appeared in books, movies, toys, and games. Thanks to new discoveries and technology, scientists are still learning more about how the T. rex lived, hunted, and evolved. Even though it went extinct millions of years ago, the mighty Tyrannosaurus rex still rules the world of dinosaurs.
