Job Vacancies in the United Kingdom Hits Record | UK News | NewsRme
Job openings in the United Kingdom exceeded 1.1 million in the latest quarter, the biggest level on record, according to recently published government data.
According to the UK's Office of National Statistics, the number of job openings rose by 318,000 between July and September of 2021, to a record high of 1,102,000, from levels before the pandemic in the spring of 2020. (ONS).
A CCP (Chinese Communist Party) virus triggered the COVID-19 pandemic, and ONS economic statistics director Darren Morgan stated the employment market has "continued to recover" from its impacts.
With a record number of openings in 12 of the 18 categories, the previous quarter saw continuing increase across the board. Wholesale and retail commerce, as well as vehicle repair for cars and motorcycles, had the biggest growth in the third quarter.
However, the pace of job creation has slowed in the majority of industrial sectors. In the third quarter of 2021, the number of vacancies increased by 239,000 (27.7%), compared to 242,000 (38.9%) in the previous quarter.
A record rise in September boosted the number of UK employees on business payrolls over pre-pandemic levels, according to the ONS.
Between August and September, the number of salaried employees increased by 207,000 to a record 29.2 million. This was 122,000 more than pre-pandemic levels in February 2020.
As a result of this decline, the ONS reports that the unemployment rate is now at a year-low of 4.5%, down from a high of 4.6% in the third quarter of 2017.
With less concerns about job losses, the Bank of England may increase interest rates quicker than anticipated to combat rising inflation.
However, the ONS highlighted the effect of the UK's growing recruiting problem, with vacancies increasing 318,000 over pre-pandemic levels and recent research revealing a range of industries failing to fill positions.
The ONS says the hospitality industry is the hardest to recruit, with almost a third (30%) reporting difficulties filling positions.
