Track 1 from his third solo album “Somethin’s Happening” released in 1974 copyright A&M Records. It was recorded at Olympic Studios and Island Studios in London and at Headley Grange, a country estate in Hampshire, England built in 1795. Keyboardist Mick Gallagher had moved on following the release of the previous album, so Frampton played most of the keyboard parts himself. The album received average reviews but sales were disappointing as it only reached No. 125 on the Billboard chart. Written by Peter Frampton, John Siomos & Rick Wills and produced by Peter Frampton. RIP Nicky Hopkins & John Siomos. Featuring:

Peter Frampton – Lead vocals, lead, rhythm & acoustic guitars, guitar synthesizer, piano, Hammond B-3 organ, percussion & background vocals, drums on “Magic Moon (Da Da Da Da Da!)”
Rick Wills – Bass & background vocals
John Siomos – Drums & percussion
Special Guests:
Nicky Hopkins – Piano on “Waterfall” & “Sail Away”

Woo
Do what everybody says is wrong
You can't believe nobody, takes too long
Changin' your mind, ooh, let me up
Well, I can't believe that kind would drink my cup

(Yeah) yeah (yeah) yeah

Take away what you can make today, look, turn around
Put your hand in the lottery, hey, what you found?
Take the place, you got another taste, make it through
Carry on, won't do you wrong, it's somethin' new

Icicles of blue serene inside your eyes
I came in the same way too, ooh, with you

(Head in the sky) let me breathe
(Don't wanna make you cry) but I gotta leave
(Take all you can) don't let it show
(Walk away) you gotta pay for all you know

Hang on to me, put your hand in the lottery
You don't really need to be, oh, anything you don't wanna be
Setting suns and thinking aloud, speaking of you
I came in the same way too

Head in the sky, let me breathe
Don't wanna make you cry but I gotta leave
Take all you can, I understand, don't let it show
You can walk away but you gotta pay for all you know

(Yeah-ha) yeah-ha (yeah-ha) yeah-ha

Do what everybody says it wrong
Yeah, I won't believe anybody, takes too long
Changin' your mind, let me up
I can't believe that kind would drink my cup

If you ever live in a tornado alley, try not to breathe. It'll make the tornado worse.

There certainly was Something Happening with Peter Frampton. I first saw him in 1973 and then I became a follower of his concerts, going to great lengths to see him live. And I told my friends about him. Saw him when he was the opening act on a four-band bill! Then he was sandwiched between the bands on a three-band bill. I remember smuggling a cassette tape recorder into Massillon, Ohio, Tiger Stadium and recording his show, and playing it later for my friends. (You could do that back in the 70s, no searches.) Then the live album came out, and it was mostly what he did in that '75 tour. I was elated! He used to open for Humble Pie (well, that was the band he left to go solo), the J. Geils Band, (another band who sounds much better live than on record), the Edgar Winter Group (!) and just about any band in that era. Any-hoo, This is one of his better studio recordings. While Frampton is no longer able to tour, I am so glad to be able to rewind "back to the day" when this road-weary, struggling artist finally got the worldwide recognition that he so richly deserved! Someone asked me what the crowd was shouting to bring him back for an encore. I guess the audience wanted "More Peter! More Peter!"

Not sure where the influence is but this sounds a lot like a Doobie Bros song although I suspect PF was going for something older...at times it seems Beatley...like he crossed the Band with the Beatles...interesting mix.
