Putin Says He's Ready to Meet With Trump About Ukraine

Russian President Vladimir Putin said he’s ready to meet with US President Donald Trump to discuss Ukraine and oil prices among other issues.

“It will likely be better for us to meet, and based on today’s realities, speak calmly about areas that are of interest for both the US and Russia,” Putin said in comments broadcast on state television. “We are ready, but this depends above all on the decision and choice of the current US administration.”

The Russian leader already said this week that he was open to talks on the war in Ukraine as he offered his congratulations to Trump before his inauguration. On Friday, he again voiced his readiness for a meeting after Trump threatened new sanctions on Russia if it refused to negotiate.

Angela Stent, non-resident senior fellow at the Brookings Institution, discusses the impact of Trump returning to power on Putin's near-term strategy and how the Russian leader is being viewed among his own citizens. Dr. Stent speaks with Tom Keene and Paul Sweeney on Bloomberg Radio.

There is a need for a court hearing in the UN General Assembly on the "war in Ukraine" issue, where the two sides of the conflict will have to prove their right based on international documents, doctrines and the UN charter.
If official Russia continues to refuse to clearly prove the legal basis for the presence of its troops on the territory of Ukraine, then complete isolation of Russia by members of the UN is needed.
But so far, no one is interested in truth, justice and transparent disclosure of the causes of the conflict.
Why such a court session has not yet been organized, the answer is simple:
western "democracies" need to impose loans on Ukrainians, and Russia needs to improve its army on the "Ukraine" training ground using the enemy as a sparring partner, for Russia the army of the empire is above all else.
Obliging the General Assembly to hold court hearings that will put an end to wars is a guarantee of peace and the legal development of civilization.
