My channel has moved, to Botswana. Thanks to my daughters for joining me for this video where we explain a bit about why we moved (only temporarily) and also talk a bit about some of their experiences as new C programmers, including buffer overruns, pointers, version control, and makefiles. Enjoy.

Links to my daughters' stuff.

Welcome! I post videos that help you learn to program and become a more confident software developer. I cover beginner-to-advanced systems topics ranging from network programming, threads, processes, operating systems, embedded systems and others. My goal is to help you get under-the-hood and better understand how computers work and how you can use them to become stronger students and more capable professional developers.

About me: I'm a computer scientist, electrical engineer, researcher, and teacher. I specialize in embedded systems, mobile computing, sensor networks, and the Internet of Things. I teach systems and networking courses at Clemson University, where I also lead the PERSIST research lab.

Only found your channel 2 days ago. Since then I’ve managed to understand pointers and linked list, sort lists (ints / char / char*) and I’m able to create makefiles, all thanks to your videos.

I’m starting uni (computer science) next month, so I am super grateful with how easy you break down complicated concepts. Thank you so much!

This video warms my heart. The thing about C is, regardless of whether you find it crazy or not, it is showing you what there actually is. Not hiding, not sanitizing, not creating safety nets upon safety nets. Please unlearn Java as quickly as possible, and what really happens in a computer will become so much easier to understand.

Great wholesome family dynamic. You're lucky they got interested in programming by themselves.

This was such a heartwarming video. BTW, I've been programming in C for ~30 years, but I still somehow identity with Eliza with regards to certain aspects. What can I say? You just get into a flow and use what works when you need to get the job done.

Oh my GOSH, I spent YEARS in Gabs! I'd never have imagined that you would have moved there for any length of time. Have great memories of the place. What a weird connection.
