RAW you roll once because they hit simultaneously, just like you roll once for fireball damage. However I let my players decide. If a player ever played an evoker, though, I'd encourage them to go RAW as they is stronger

There's a sage advice ruling from Jeremy Crawford that references the damage roll rules on pg 196 of the phb, where he says the text about making one role for all targets of an aoe applies to magic missile. It seems kind of silly though because magic missile isn't an aoe spell. Do the rules change if you target a single creature?

DnD beyond rolls for each bolt, so thats pretty clear to mean how WotC mean to have it played.

I think it's per bolt, but at our tables either is fine as long as you call it before rolling any dice.

Individual missiles can be targeted independently, so you roll for each one. Same as Eldritch Blast

It very specifically says one d four her dart.
That means you roll per dart. How is that even a question? Preference is one thing but as written is obvious and gets dramatically different numbers

it's each bolt because that's how bg1 and 2 do it and I don't know what 3 does nor do I care
