How to start a Honda XR

I see a lot of people ask how to cold start an XR. So hope this helps someone. Of course proper jetting is key too. (Note- don’t touch throttle until bike warms up)

Hot engine is the same technique. If it’s hard to start Hot, then jetting and/or intake/exhaust flow may be an issue. If you drop it, pull decomp and pump thru several times then do the same technique.

This bike has only had Gordon’s Mods done. Stock carb. White Brothers Slip On.

I just restored a 96 I did a 10-1 wiseco piston with a wiseco top end and a mikuni 36 mm. Pumper. Whole new bike when I get it properly jetted of course. Right now it’s just not kicking over nicely

My process was always to just hammer on the kickstarter until it starts 😂. This is probably better for the mechanism.

Do they idle that fast? mine is idling slower, but tends to shut off when i hit the gas from zero to watata😂

Do every thing but use a quarter throttle with no choke fires first kick

My aunt's 40yo Honda glx, you just put in the key, turn it, give it a light kick all the way through, and it's on. No need for all this crap, just give it a good kick, if it doesn't start, pull the choke.

dont push more on kickstarter after this littel jump (svup) on kickstarter .. find tdc and push the kickstarter gives this littel jump, , up and full kick down .
