Disney is Bringing Back The Robin Williams Genie, But...

Walt Disney Animation Studios has created a brand new short to celebrate 100 years of Disney. In this short, hundreds of Disney characters interact with each other in a real world environment, which includes The Genie from Aladdin. Disney is using previously unheard audio from Robin Williams, but does that go against a rule? Should Disney really be doing that?

Fun Fact: In the preview screenings for Aladdin, audiences did not applaud after the big song numbers. The animators wanted applause and so somebody stuck the Genie with an "Applause" sign at the end of "Friend Like Me." The joke worked and the sign was kept for the movie.

I can’t believe Robin Williams didn’t want to voice the Genie at first, I’m so glad he ended up taking the role, I can’t imagine anyone else voicing Genie.

I get that most people can't really imagine Genie without Williams, but if Disney is so determined to have the character then why not call in Dan Castellaneta? He did the voice in the Return of Jafar movie AND the Aladdin TV show back in the day, so he's got plenty of experience with him 😊

It would be hard to have a celebration of Disney's greatest achievements without the Genie, so as long as Robin Williams' estate signed off on it, I think it's fine this once. *This once.* It should not become a regular thing.

Glad to hear they got th e consent of the Williams Estate. And the fact we get to hear Genie back again at least one last time vis Robin is truly something magical.

He was an absolute legend. And his legacy will never truly be forgotten.

Nothing could ever replace Robin Williams, but if I could recall, I heard that Dan Castelanetta (the voice of Homer Simpson) can do top notch job of a Robin Williams voice. But like I said, nothing could ever replace Robin. His soul lives on to us all.

Tbh, I would have been okay with Dan Castellaneta returning to voice the Genie. Pays homage to the franchise, and acknowledges the straight to DVD films as well. RIP Robin Williams 🙏

It's so sad what happened to him. His personal demons blinded him to the love his family and fans had for him.
