My grandfather told me a long time ago that Kansas will always be the safest place to live in the USA this was way before tornado alley shifted. He was a meteorologist during ww2 . We vacation in Florida but never during hurricane season.

I tend to avoid living in places that have hurricane seasons, tornado ally, cliffside mudslides, regular floods, annual forest fires, etc. Not a fan of areas with recurring natural disasters...Florida's a nice place to visit...occasionally...

NAH, I'm not going to retire and live down there. Wish my daughter would leave that area too. Better off dealing with some winter snow and colder weather than this type of catastrophe after catastrophe!

Why did people even go to live in Florida? (No offense to any Floridians) I mean, with all the hurricanes, how does one deal with the pain of their homes being flooded by more and more hurricanes? :(

If anybody has spent any time in the Caribbean, places like Jamaica that has the storms passover them directly all the time, I wonder why homes in those regions in our country where these storms hit, aren’t built out of concrete and rebar like they are there. if anybody really cared about the loss of life and property, they would start doing things like this, Insurance would have way less to pay for, the loss of life would probably be less than it is. Makes no sense to me.

Hard to have sympathy for those who CHOSE to live in flood zones, especially without insurance. If you're smart enough to buy and own a home, you're smart enough to understand risk. You gambled, you lost. Nobody's fault but your own.
