Let's play Hearts of Iron 4! It's 2024 and I've disabled all the DLC, expansions and additional content. Does the game still hold up in its "stock" or "vanilla" version? This playthrough is aimed at beginners who won't have all the expansions themselves, so they can follow along as I explain things and teach them how to play Hearts of Iron 4. We'll be playing as the United Kingdom in a historical setting.
Don't worry about the videos listed as Members Only - the next one goes public every other day or so, members just geat early access as a way of me saying thanks for the support.

Plus lots more on the channel page.

Members get early access to new videos and series, but all content becomes free - I release one video per day, per game.

This is my (personal) opinion of all the DLCs:

Man the guns - good, the naval designer is fun because it gives you ways to customise ships if you're deep into the navy (having sub hunting destroyers and scouting destroyers etc). The government in exile mechanics that are added are also fun

La Resistance - The intelligence side of things is useful, but only if you're playing a nation that isn't democratic. Its also useful for reducing the enemies entrenchment and things like that

Battle for the Bosporus - irrelevant

No Step Back - If you are going to buy just one DLC, then get No Step Back. The tank designer is good, and a massive improvement on the base game tank mechanics. It also adds in railway guns and whatnot, which are good. All the content updates for Poland, the Baltics and the USSR are also very fun. The general staff and Officer Corps add ons are again also very useful

By Blood Alone - The plane designer is both good and bad. It's alright, and I enjoy making custom planes. I do also think to an extent, you're always going to design the same thing, and that applies to the ship designer and tank designer. But I agree with you that you can do without the plane designer. The Italian content update is good, mainly because it's more realistic as to how bad Italy performed in ww2. Also, and this is just my personal observations I don't think that the update really changes Italy that much. They usually get hammered in Africa anyway. The only way they don't get hammered in Africa is if you're playing as Germany and absolutely oblierate the Allies, which weakens their opposition. If you're playing with an AI controlled UK, Italy and Germany, usually Italy ends up losing most of Africa. The Switzerland and Ethiopia mechanics are basically irrelevant.

Arms against Tyranny - Its good, and the MIOs are actually useful because the traits do make your artillery, planes etc more powerful but yeah they get annoying. The arms market is good for selling off cheap crap, but It only really truly benefits in multiplayer I feel (usually the AI never puts good stuff on the market)

Trials of Alliegance - Its a country pack, its got good paths for South America but also the paths are all a bit samey and you can do without it

Götterdämmerung - very good so far, and highly recommend it

My computer broke in the middle of this series
I can't continue until the new one arrives, hopefully it is here tomorrow or the next day. So frustrating!

I wish these videos were around when I started playing the game. Hopefully they'll help lots of people who are daunted by the amount of work that is needed. I love playing as the UK, but was curious as to why you haven't requested forces from your subjects? I usually have about 60-70 divisions from them by 1940 and it doesn't take up any of my equipment.

Just to let you know, if the text is green for oil, it means how many days until you have full stockpile of oil. I noticed that you might be thinking that’s the amount of days before it will run out (which should be in red instead)

Will you be invading Iraq which is historical, it doesn't get brought up as much in ww2 I didn't know anything about it for a long time I think it was a joint operation with the soviet union right around the time of operation barbarossa.
