I would like to point out that Argentina is a country that has managed to keep all competition from international players at bay, because of the trade unions that they have. Those trade unions have managed to gain monopoly over any business that is done in individual sectors, by working closely with the fascist-socialist government (peronists). As a result, even though the owners of those businesses, that are a part of the trade union have become extremely rich, but the general population has become extremely poor due to lack of jobs (which lowers the leverage that people have, to negotiate a good enough salary) and an extremely poorly performing currency (due to massive public spending). There have been times in the past, even in India, when such traditional trade unions and businesses have resisted competition from external players and missed out on industrial revolution. In my opinion they’re also missing out on the ongoing technological revolution because of their attitude towards spending on technology (which they consider as merely toys). In lay man’s terms, they’re missing out on being up to date. European population will also suffer from lack of cutting edge and up to date products for their business and personal use, if they resist competition from US based companies, apart from losing a plethora of jobs the Europeans enjoy at those companies.
