This reminded me PAINFULLY of an old classmate of mine. They wouldnt compete, per say, but they would tell me I read WAY to much, and that I “wasn’t going to have friends if I stopped reading as much as I did” it damaged my relationship with my favorite hobby, but I’m glad that I’ve been able to fix it by finding some good books 🫶

Everyone should enjoy however many books then can read in the given timeframe. Your only „competition“ is yourself and time.
I pressure myself with “there are some many great books and more to come. How will you ever be able to read them all?” Then I have a tiny meltdown and read a little bit faster. 🤷‍♀️🤦‍♀️
Seriously, there are too many good books and not enough lifetimes 😩😢

I tracked my books read on goodreads this year, so helpful. I have 1 more book in my goal with 2 weeks to go. Just to say it my goal was 150 and im soo happy i met it

I think something most people need to remember is that the average person has other responsibilities and cannot dedicate hours on end to their hobbies. At this moment, I’ve read like 150 books this year. why? because I’m unemployed, finished college, and have multiple health problems that make it so I can’t even do chores. literally all I can do is read. the average adult has to 1)go to work, 2) clean their home, 3) cook food for themselves and 4) potentially take care of children/animals. hell when I was still working, I went several months without picking up a single book. most people are busy and we shouldn’t make a hobby a competition. bc it’s just that. a hobby. something for fun to pass the time. stop comparing free time
so I am sorry to everyone who gets told they don’t read enough from people who have more time to spend on it. it’s unfair to you. please just enjoy what you read, the amount doesn’t matter :)

Nahhh cause there's this one girl in my class who's always like "I read 16 books this month" "I read this book in just a day" "I read 82 books this year" and just two days ago, she was showing off to me how she completed a 400-paged book (Powerless) in two days. I got annoying and said I completed that book in one sitting in 8 hours. She was taken aback at that and rolled her eyes saying "Whatever, show off"

I've read 1 book in the last 5 years, not a single fan fic except to help a friend who needs help describing or giving a character a weapon (I have 3 books on weapons)... god my reading life sucks

I basically met my goal of books reat this yr with 2 weeks to go. Have 1 more book to read. I set my goal at 150 and so glad i got there. Using goodreads to track soo helpful
