I hate these content creators ruining it for everyone. A lot of us grew up as quiet polite people who grew up on Japanese media (music games and of course anime). Now a bunch of people who look like me are now going to Japan and giving us a bad name. These types of people used to disdain people who liked Japanese culture and media as "for nerds" and now they are going to Japan and ruining things.

Sometimes gatekeeping has its benefits

Please respect all cultures, especially when visiting their country as you are a guest!

i live in Nairobi, Kenya, and you wouldn't believe it if i told you that just yesterday on Saturday while walking through central Nairobi, i got stopped by a nuisance "content creator" from another african country asking really dumb questions to passers by, many of whom were nonplussed by the sheer stupidity of the things they were asked. It appears that many of these "content creators" know that Kenya is a place that they are GUARANTEED to have their numbers blow up on account of our huge share of the digital space on our continent, so they come here unhinged with 1 intention only: subs and likes. The questions asked were borderline insane so i won't elaborate since i respect Youtube family values principles on comments/content uploaded. Many of us in Kenya are fed up too with nuisance content creators

I agree with you that Japan is not a theme park and that tourists need to observe all the cultural aspects and accept that Japanese people are who they are. Even though it might not make sense to you, it does to them, so you should respect it.

Very true. Impressions are a big deal especially when you are black. They will put us all in the same box like just everyone else on the planet does.

The moment this social media thing came on the scene, the whole world has gone crazy.

Most folks of the African Diaspora who come or live in Japan act & behave accordingly. But as we seen with a certain individual who 1st created a scene while he was in Japan & is about to FAFO in South Korea, it only takes a handful of such folks to mess it up for all of us. & just a while ago, a 65 year old White dude from American got in trouble in Japan for messing with a shrine. It's as tourists forgot tour rule #1- respect the values & culture of the country you're visiting.

There's an increasing amount of anti-tourism brewing worldwide because some tourists forgot that they're guests in the countries they're visiting & need to act it.

I'm glad you are putting this message out. I currently live in japan. The problem is people who follow this type of behavior don't watch your channel or associate with well-behaved respectful people.

As someone who plans to visit and hopefully move to Japan…this makes me very sad

This is not a reference to black people, but to people of any race (including Japanese people, of course) who cannot follow public rules because they cannot understand human language.

Thank you for telling the truth. People seem allergic to it these days. It's refreshing to find honest folks.

I am Japanese, but I have seen many videos on X of foreign tourists causing trouble, regardless of their skin color. You must have seen them too. On the other hand, I have also seen many videos criticizing the behavior of foreigners who follow the idea of "I don't mind causing a little trouble as long as I stand out" or "When traveling, shame is to be discarded." People of African descent likely have very different views depending on their country of origin, age, gender, religion, economic status, and family background. Although my English is not very good, I have never actually had a conversation with them, but influenced by social media, I probably hold unconscious stereotypes.

I've lived peacefully in Japan for over 25 years. Seeing these rude tourists reminds me why I chose to leave America.

My wife was black. She'd be turning in her grave seeing these modern day influencers. She always had respect for the culture and was educated and well mannered. She would be pissed if she saw what these people are doing in Japan. Im sorry these idiots are dragging your reputation through the dirt. You dont deserve that. You seem like a decent guy. I hope things get better and cooler heads prevail and realize there are some idiot opportunists getting a lot of attention but thats not the norm. That doesnt reflect on rvery other black person. Japan isnt exactly the easiest place for gaijin to begin with. I like Japan and its culture and people a lot. But I've heard it can be real lonely for gaijin. My wife and I never made it there. Once she was gone i just didnt wanna go anymore. I havent travled or left New York since. So I can only go by what I heard from others living there. Edit: I just saw the part where the monkey poster Jesus! Thats really really bad. Reminds me of a time my wife and i were walking through Brooklyn and there was "a group of teens" across the street and one of them was literally swinging from the scaffholding making monkey noises and i saw my wife stairing him down with a look of rage in her eyes. She didn't say anything but I knew exactly what she was thinking and why she was so angry. Oh my God Im glad she didn't have to see that poster. She would be pissed!

They talk more about this nonsense than about the white kid who sat multiple fires in tokyo wards. Let that sink in.

I've been dying to go to Japan for the longest time and working towards it, but I feel like the content creators who have shown disrespect towards Japan are going to ruin my chances of being able to go. Now I feel that there will be heavy amounts of discrimination when I go, due to how easily black people are stereotyped in countries outside of North America.

I'm praying to God that things turn around or I at least have a peaceful experience without being blocked off from going places in Japan.

I’m just really nervous how other people look at me when I go to Japan I don’t do any of those stuff and I’m not the type of person to attract attention I just hope they won’t judge a book by its cover it up because they see a black person
