I wouldn't buy even one set for investment unless I felt good about displaying it for my personal collection. Some of the spiderman stuff could be tempting.

I love Duplo.
My theory is that a parent would buy a retired set for their kid if it had a character or feature their child would like that isn't currently available.
Personally, one of my "white whale" sets is the black castle. Its the only all black duplo castle.

As far as investing I think you have the right idea. Cars and Spidey are the duplo sets I would invest in personally.

I wouldn’t pay a premium for anything Duplo, but I’m not independently wealthy. I’m working class. I can’t imagine scrolling through Amazon or eBay looking at Duplo sets and pay 200 for a set for kids or grandkids birthday or Christmas

I also have no idea why Duplo skyrockets...I'm curious maybe purchase 1 or 2 to sell and ask the buyer why they are interested? Not sure how else to get a poll out to Duplo buyers 🤷‍♂️

I think the reason why duplo numbers are there is because there aren’t many sku out there and people loooking for duplo are paying whatever the market demands . I don’t know where you’re going with you can’t belive it . I’m am confused who would be pumping them up. People are putting up auctions and others are buying em. Also you have a lot of parents buying these for there kids . They go to the store and see there isn’t many duplo for sale so they go to eBay and find a larger assortment and they don’t know what the retails once were as they are buying them for there little kids or grandparents as gifts or many just looking for a bday gift for someone.

I do it to launder money but I guess some people might actually be interested in buying them. In all seriousness however stop talking about it. The fewer resellers buying duplo the better for me.

So yeah, as a reseller, go with LEGO's strategy and profit from it with Duplo and classic sets.

Maybe money laundering? I mean I can’t think of anything else I mean I’ve never even heard anything about nostalgia when it comes to Duplo.

I agree, some of these prices are very inflated. Dont know why. However i think many investers skip this theme. So there is low supply. Witch could drive the prive, for the few collectors who are out there.

I just bought a couple duplo steamtrains that are retiring this year. Bought them for 60% off. My second duplo investment. Well see what happens. Last year I bought 20- and some DUPLO bulldozers for 6 eu each. They are now 16 eu each

8:28 but are they actually selling for the price they get put up or is it just people saying oh that’s worth thousands, why? Because I said so!

I used to sell MTG cards so I’m well aware of cards been worth as much as people are willing to pay, I’m like why is they card so wanted ied only class it at like 2 pound at most but it’s going for 45 quid so that’s what I’ll sell it for, but I saw some trying to sell it for a few hundred and of course no one was willing to buy at that price but in search results it was still pushing up the “”top end””

It kinda reminds me of the ancient Japanese Longbows that were been sold on eBay for 1p with a delivery cost of 2 thousand pounds

Supply and demand. Supply is so low for Duplo after retirement. Investors avoid and parents that buy are opened and played with. When no other sets available then price can swing dramatically.

I don't really know why Duplo would pull so much. Somewhere rich people are building giant Duplo cities for their kids? Upscale daycare facilities in rich neighborhoods buying nothing but Duplo for durability and...cred? Dunno.

Part of me reeeeally wanted to buy the Duplo "Wild Animals of the World" set that was recently on sale at LEGO down to $90-something from $130. I have this feeling it will be a winner, and wanted to buy a couple...just as an experiment. I didn't. =\ Will see if I regret it. But don't normally buy unless on sale. Only real Duplo I've purchased were some Spidey sets for $5 at Walmart (normal $20). So those are a win no matter what. I share your reservation on the rest.

Duplo bricks work with lego system, so I buy cheap Duplo on occasion for filler brick for inside mountains and stuff. But I dont invest in it. It’s not something that Im willing to be stuck with.
