There’s already a drop in solder less screen that’s the same size as the original. Should’ve used that instead.

The newer screen may be smaller, but this mode is 100% worth it because it’s cheap, easy to install, works super well, no soldering is needed, and you can even get custom screen lenses that actually are modified to match the smaller screen! I’ve modded all the Game boy colors that I’ve built with this mod and it’s super intuitive to do.

Modding is cool but tbh I prefer the experience of having to play in direct light. It makes playing feel more intentional and special imo.

Also keep in mind that these screens do introduce a small amount of input lag and this screen in particular is also slightly smaller.

Back In the day, we used to play the Gameboy OUTSIDE. With the sun on it, it looks gorgeous! We never used it inside. And for that, we had a worm light or just any lamp. But at home, we played Snes or any other console.

Newer screens don't look good with the direct sun on it.

Oh my god this is EXACTLY the kind of screen mod I want for this GBC! This was my childhood edition and I've been looking to re-buy one, but all the screen mods I've seen can't reuse the original screen lens

I honestly think it's better to leave them original when in perfect working order, especially the special editions! They are collector's items... There are dozens of portable consoles where you can play with backlit displays, even buy a 3ds or 2ds with a softmod!! in a few years gameboys with normal displays will be worth a lot because there will be thousands of custom ones around :D
