You're allowed to not like certain foods lol doesn't mean it's an attack on someone's culture. Glad you liked it though!

As an Indonesian, people that attacked you for disliking tempe is absolutely ridiculous lmao. And tempe taste different from one another depending on who/where it made. Idk how tempe taste outside of Indonesia, never tried it before. But my friend said its really not good, and definitely different from tempe here.

Anyway I'm glad you liked it! There are hundreds of ways to cook tempe. One of them is deep fried with seasoned batter, called "tempe mendoan". Try it!!! 10/10 recommend!

Sorry for my grammar.

It’s not a mistake to dislike a certain food. You’re not disliking an entire culture because of it. People need to get a grip and stop this nonsense of being offended by anything and everything. Personally, I hate tempeh…can’t stomach the flavor or texture. That doesn’t mean I can’t stand certain people, places or cultures…just a certain food. Have a problem with it? Take it up with my taste buds.

All foods are cultural foods. It's okay to not like something. And it's okay to voice your opinions

I mean you are allowed to dislike things 😂 but that does look very good!

you don't have to like every single thing that belongs to every single culture just ridiculous and don't apologize for everything.

It is "Kecap" kind of read like "ketchup" without the "T" so just "Ke-chup" which means sweet soy sauce in Indonesian. It's an Indonesian dish, one of my favorite food that my mom made. Love from Indonesia!!!

one thing ive learned about tempeh is you cannot treat it like tofu. i prefer tempeh to tofu because unlike my experience with tofu, tempeh actually soaks up the flavor you imbue it with, but not like a sponge so youre just eating a solid sauce. i always "steep" the tofu in hot water and let it marinade for days in a broth/marinade and just cook as needed. frying to to crispy like this is also really good! im glad you were open to trying it.

i will be honest, in the 10 years ive been vegan the only thing that has gotten me to like alternative plant proteins is to not use them like most people are saying to use them. looking to traditional dishes from where they come from and see how they're prepared has been the ultimate help. i finally like tofu now, but only how i can get it at a lot of different asian restaurants, so i do my best to prepare them that way at home instead. im not a fan of pretty much any westernized dish with tofu.

Every food is a cultural food.
Now we have to love everything so nobody is offended? Does society need to be in therapy for inferiority complex or some narcissistic shit?

idk if this sounds weird but I love her reaction to the "tempeh is a cultural food" comments. She could have made a big deal out of them by either being defensive or profusely apologizing. However, she listened to the suggestions and used the situation as an opportunity to try something new in a lighthearted and entretaining way.

The first president of Indonesia has a famous quote slandering tempeh as a statement of national strength, so its not unheard of to dis it. It can be fantastic tho.

When I first started eating it (when I was a child), I used to not like it because it was put in a soup like dish. After a while, I tried fried version, and the flavour grew on me. Now I'm okay with eating any version of it. But then again, it's not like an instinct to eat it every day. Glad you re-try it!

Just because something is "cultural food" doesn't mean it can't be gross. Tempeh is not gross to me, but my daughter, who's about your age, said, "Why does it have to have mold growing on it!"

Tempeh is delicious! I'm glad you gave it another try. Just like with tofu it's all about the preparation and seasonings. 👌

y'all the fact that she didn't like tempeh wasn't the ever the issue. People are allowed to dislike foods obviously. It's the fact that it wasn't prepared in a way that it was meant to be eaten with the preparations and sauces that best complement it. Like eating raw tofu plain or fried or with a sauce, obviously it's going to taste different and a person can more accurately access if they actually dislike the food or if they dislike the preparation method.

I’ve marinated tempeh before and it’s so so good. I actually don’t even hate the taste of tempeh alone.

If you grill it on charcoal wrapped inside a banana leaf is really good
