Despite Zhu Zhu pets saving the lives of thousands of hamsters across the world, they were sadly discontinued. We’ll be taking a deep dive into the History of Zhu Zhu pets to find out what went wrong? Although these robotic hamsters were only a short fad from 2009 - 2012, they had many strange lines,movies and games.

Ahh, this video actually made me smile that there's people still out there acknowledging Zhu Zhu Pets (whether in the fandom or not) glad to see you guys make this long video of these little dudes history! There's still more unanswered questions out there on what else they could've brought, and i'm hoping to find the answer!

My sisters collected these. They had all of the first series, I think. Some play sets including the castle, some babies (they had a baby penguin), and beds. I remember playing with the pets separately to the play sets, and using the play sets for other toys.

13:13 I remember having a particular attachment to the Amazing Zhus line. I only had Madame, but I wanted them all.

Madame came with 3 cards, a wand, a nut, and 3 walnut shells. The gimmick with the wand, is that she would follow it. You would hold it in your hand, and she would follow. Although I don't remember much about that, since my wand stopped working (permanently) quite quickly after I got the set. Yea, it just... stopped working and never worked again, for some reason.

The gimmick with the nut is that you could hide it in different places, and she would find it. Like for example playing a cup shuffling game, and after shuffling, she would be able to guess which cup the nut was under, because the tracking was so precise. And instead of cups, they included walnut shells for that in the set (makes sense).

And the cards were less mechanical and more metaphorical, because afaik she would just pick a random card, and this was supposed to be her 'telling your future to you'. Although, after approaching one of the three cards, she would perform some action related to the content of the card. Like for example, after detecting the ballerina card, she would sing a girly tune and do a twirl.

The wand and nut needed their own batteries, but the cards had microchips.

We initially got a Zhu Zhu Pet to entertain our dog, but when he began to chew it up, we knew it'd be bad for him so we snuck it out of his toy box. He can sniff out anything anywhere, so we put it in the freezer (don't know why we didn't just toss it). That was 8 years ago. To this day, it will randomly go off in the freezer. Even if we haven't opened the freezer in days, we'll be sitting in another room and we'll suddenly hear a muffled, "Brrrriippp buhbuhbuh! Awwwohh."

I WAS OBSESSED WITH ZHU ZHU PETS I would always check out the website everyday. I had the pink bunny, hedgehog, panda looking hamster, and a couple more. I miss them a lot. They were a great comfort toy since I wasn’t allowed to have a hamster as a kid. And I remember watching the movie and loving it back then, my mom thought the villain was creepy lol y’all are hilarious

Great video, guys! You’ve got a new sub 😄 But have you two ever seen the “Tomagachi”-type Zhu Zhu pet virtual toy?? I had it as a kid and I must say that flippin’ thing ruled my life for a couple months with Mr. Squiggles demanding food and enrichment from me, which he could basically only get from literal time-sensitive minigames. If I didn’t play the games IMMEDIATELY after getting out of school, I would be locked out of feeding him or fulfilling his needs for the day and it was really stressful for a kid! I was so scared that Squiggles would bang aggressively on the glass again in his hanger rages again (the animation is TERRIFYING XD), that I would beg my mom to play the games for me because the timeslots to play them would end before I could even get home (around 3PM). I swear I’m not making this up 😂
