'Three Men in a Boat' is one of my favourite books: its humour, its charm, its moments of beauty make it irresistibly attractive to me. As such, this is my second recording of it, superior I believe to my original one which I did a number of years ago now. It really is a splendid book and perfectly evocative of lazy Victorian summer days, an evocation I have endeavoured to heighten through the employment of music and sound effects. I hope you enjoy it.

Arrangements settled.—Harris’s method of doing work.—How the elderly family-man puts up a picture.—George makes a sensible remark.—Delights of early morning bathing.—Provisions for getting upset.

Music in this chapter: John Du Prez, Ralph McTell, Howard Shore, Hubert Parry.
