A man was shot during a road rage incident near the Riverview neighborhood in Seattle early Saturday morning, according to police, and the suspect is still outstanding.

At 2:39 a.m., police responded to a call from a witness in the area who heard several shots fired. Officers arrived to the area near the entrance of the Duwamish River Trail and Highland Park Way Southwest, and found a man sitting outside his car with a gun shot wound to his lower back.

Police provided medical aid to the victim while waiting for Seattle Fire Department medics to arrive, and later transported him to Harborview Medical Center where he is recovering.

The suspect involved fled the scene in a sedan-type vehicle, though the direction is unknown. Police canvassed the area and found evidence of the shooting but nothing further. Their investigation continues.

The Washington State Patrol (WSP) reported an uptick in the number of "shots fired" calls related to road rage in 2022, with 133 incidents so far this year.

"It seems like people are just getting a lot more bold on the roadways," said WSP Trooper John Dattilo.

Dattilo said a number of factors could be contributing to the rise.

"Law enforcement - a lot of agencies are struggling with low staffing," Dattilo said. "There's been a lot of changes, especially coming out of COVID, things opening back up, there was a lot of frustration and there was a lot of high emotions during the COVID shutdowns."

Funny how nobody mentions the proliferation of guns as part of the problem. And the trooper's advice: let yourself be bullied - then there will be no incident. Ridiculous.

I have a dash cam - but you can't report reckless driving after the fact, you need to call 911 there and now. That's impractical. We need a legislative change that allows to report reckless driving with evidence and witness reports to law enforcement after the fact and forces law enforcement to act on the report. Only then will things change. Things are bag right now because bad actions have no consequences. And bad drivers know this.

I wish I could easily upload footage with criminal activity which can then be processed by police

These days people are rude as hell..and they have that same attitude when driving. I drive transit and whenever I let people in front of my bus (because no one wants to let them in) no one... I mean NO ONE... evers waves "👋🏼 thank you" anymore.

In 1998, right around my last summer free after graduating high school- I had a guy behind me on the 2 lane only (one going north, one going south) of old Broadway in north Everett I was driving one of my buddy's from high school home I could never remember EXACTLY where his parents house was, so I stopped kinda suddenly and he hopped out. It was really fast, but dude behind me GOT PISSED. He was tailgating me and being a jerk in general, so when we went passed Evergreen Cemetery and multiple lanes opened for northbound I flipped him off and grinned. I happened to be wearing my fangs that night. He started yelling and freaking out so bad I could hear him and we both had our windows rolled up. I couldn't understand a lot of what he said, except "vampire b****". He then would speed to get in front of me and suddenly randomly brake, full stop. But he didn't have passengers like me. When he stopped like that the other 2 cars near us stopped cos they were worried why we stopped.
He then started going again and he would get in front of me, get behind me. He was trying to run me off the road or hit his pickup truck bed. He was driving super recklessness, endangering anyone around him. While he was in front of, I told my other passenger who was coming to my house I'm going to turn right down this road to lose him. We knew he only had one headlight. We thought, we had to lose him, he was in front of us. As we're figuring out where to turn to get back to Broadway after this random detour through a neighborhood, suddenly one headlight is racing towards us. We both screamed and cussed. I ended up getting back to Broadway and my mom lived in public housing down at the end of it right before the highway entrance for the Marysville flats. I turned right to get in my neighborhood. Onr-headlight scary Truck guy was in the left lane, he slammed on his breaks in the middle of the intersection to follow my right hand turn FROM THE LEFT LANE! Luckily a couple other confused cars messed up his plan. I didn't live far, right next door to Denny Juvie, parked me and my friend ran inside my house locked the door. I was shaking and panicking had to explain it all to my mom. Kept looking out the window, thankfully I never saw him again.

I’ve seen plenty of road rage where it was 1 driver on I-5. Their brights are always on. 😂 I’ll start calling them in.

Ummm if someone cuts me off— I’m honking my horn. Also, I feel like road rage has increased bc drivers rarely see police enforcing rules of the road here.
