Why won’t the new Apple Pencil Pro work on the old M2 iPad Pro?!

I’m not happy about this, I bought one and mine won’t connect to my iPad Air 11. Apple support acted as if they were unaware there was an issue and had a replacement shipped out but this time without the free customization and it doesn’t work either. I told Apple support the same thing, the magnetic charge isn’t functioning, it feels as if it wants to fall off the top of the tablet because it’s as if it only has one magnet on one end connecting to the pencil. Not only won’t it charge, it is easily knocked loose from the tablet to be lost. I’m sending both back and they had best refund in full including the cost of shipping what is for me a useless pencil back. I was considering upgrading this tablet to the newer one when my Apple Care runs out but now I’ve lost interest and as a shareholder in Apple stock this infuriates me. This is impacting other customers as well, and that’s not good. Thanks for making this video, I’ll be sure to link Apple CS to this information as backup to my return.

Like seriously last year i bought the ipad pro m2 but i didn't buy the pencil at that time cuz I heard they are launching their new Apple pencil pro with lot more features so i didn't purchase the Apple pencil 2nd gen but now they are saying it doesn't mean how hard is it to keep their magnet at the same place as usual or build another pencil with the same features for older i can't even say ipad pro M2 is old ( i know it's old ) but i bought it last year with a lot of hard now it's outdated for it's a joke.

They could have made it work. It’s about money and exclusivity. Apple could have easily released a Pencil Pro charger just like the hundreds of 3rd party options where you can freely charge it without an iPad. This is absolute gibberish!!!

Or…… they could’ve just put the pencil charging magnets on the opposite side of the new cameras and then the new and older Apple Pencil would both work

It's money, they could have placed it at the bottom but they want you to not only buy the new ipads but also the new apple pencil.

They still could’ve made it work with the iPad, they still could’ve given you the choice. Just made sure you know it may not fully work with the new magnets. Make it act like an older model.
Once a company makes something different enough to change a product, they should make it clear there’s a difference. Calling it a pro, in this case doesn’t make it stand out, if they called it by Generation, than it’d make sense

I didn't see the fine print when I bought it. I saw that it would work with an M2 iPad but it's just this year's Air, not my 11 inch M2 iPad Pro. I'm returning it for a refund. That's awful from Apple!!

its probably because apple wants to make more money. the new apple pencil pro should work with the iPad Pro M2, as the M2 has support for hover, and all of the new features of the apple pencil could be achieved with a minor software update

Imagine if Apple paid app developers like Adobe to immediately discontinue full support for the second generation Apple Pencil so the second generation Apple Pencil would no longer have pressure sensitively and would just behave as if it was your finger in those apps without the buttons. Pretty much that would be an incentive for people to upgrade to newer devices before they actually need to.

That’s so messed up. My mom got me the second generation because she thought every pencil worked. Apple is out for money. Nothing else.

An alternative could be to make an apple pencil pro compatible with ipad pro M4 and another apple pencil pro for ipads that used 2nd generation Apple Pencil
