Why NASA Got A New Space Suit

Why do we need this new space suit to go back to the moon?

In 2026, four astronauts will leave Earth on one of the most powerful rockets ever made. This Artemis III mission will be the first time anyone has been back to the moon since 1972.
When they arrive, two of them will descend to the surface and spend 6 and a half days there, which is twice as long as anyone has ever spent on the moon. And they’ll be the first humans to explore this region near the lunar South Pole. To do that, these astronauts need to be able to stay outside on the lunar surface longer than ever before.

For this big ambitious mission and for the future of space travel, we need the next generation of spacesuit…

I got to be one of the first civilians to try on the prototype of the REAL SUIT that will bring humans back to the moon - and maybe to Mars.

You missed the REAL challenge.
The dust.
It WRECKED the original suits.

The sad part is that the whole thing will be filmed, photographed, and documented in every possible way in high definition, and there will still be people who will argue it didn't happen.

I love the fact that it is called the Artemis mission, both because in Greek mythology, she is the goddess of the moon and because she is the sister to Apollo who the previous moon-landing-missions were named after

Man, the astronauts are going to be on the Moon for 6.5 days... That is a long time to be there!

And most importantly, these suits need to be able to withstand moon dust tearing them to shreds for 6 day.

“Why do we need new space suits?!”

When was the last time they were updated?!

Space suits are now actually starting to look like the ones in the movies

That big, happy smile says you were definitely stoked to be trying out that suit. I hope the mission goes better than planned and is a massive success for everyone involved. I look forward to witnessing this as I was a small child in 1972.

they also need durable suits, moon dust is super sharp and shredded the apollo suits

when it happens it will be live streamed in 4k and filmed in higher quality. you know a lot of people are going to be watching it on twitch, discord, and around the world. not only that but going to watch over and over throughout history

its going to be a cozy comfort feeling again when it happens

I really hope Boeing didn’t touch that 🚀 😂

Do not let Boeing touch ANYTHING on this one

you also didnt bring up the fact that the original spacesuits used were getting torn up by the moons dust at an incredibly fast rate which was one of the big reasons why they couldnt explore longer

Aliens: Oh look, they're improving. Should we invite ourselves?
Other alien: Not yet, give them 20 years

Ummm..."Never get sunlight"...the Dark Side (more correctly named as the Far Side) gets light from the sun approximately 14 days each lunar cycle. Remember the moon is tidal locked and when we the moon is moving through its phases from full to new to full again, the far side is going through the same but opposite.

I have anxiety, depression and a bunch of other problems but hearing this makes me want to live to see this . . ❤ Peace and love to all

People dont realize that we’re starting from scratch going to the moon.

Why from scratch? It’s because we can’t use 1965 technology to go to the moon again. There are new ways, better methods, better technology, and more efficient processes. An iPhone from 2007 has more processing power than the Apollo Missions.
