Believe it or not, trains can indeed sneak up on you. There was a main line train track 100 yards from my house, in the backyard where I grew up. Sometimes I would walk along the tracks, but never between the rails, always off to one side. One time when the wind was blowing in my ears a freight train doing about 60mph snuck up behind me and scared the (well you know) out of me when it blew the horn! I always made sure to look over my shoulder a lot more often after that!
I guess I should add that it just isn't safe to walk the tracks, since some people freeze under such circumstances, one of my friends froze on a railway bridge, and it was a close call for him and the man that saved him. Miles
