I think the reason why the revolutionary army avoided clashes against the marines and navy because dragon, someone who was a marine in the past, knows that the marines and navy only following orders from the celestial dragons. They do not want to waste resources from these servants. it is more practical to bring the fight to the celestial dragons themselves. That way, they can spend their resources and lives efficiently.

The fact Akainu always calls Luffy “Dragons son” I got a feeling they were rivals in the marines. The rub is that Garp was successful at getting his first kid to join the marines. Yet he left after god valley. It’s why he’s so adamant with luffy and Ace joining. Akainu was at god valley also and because of sumn that happened to him there they took diff paths. He took absolute justice. Dragon decided on revolution. I bet this flashback is gonna have a moment where Dragon has to decide between leaving with Sakazuki or Ivanka and Kuma.

Also in hindu mythology, the son of Vayu (wind god) is the monkey god (hanuman). Hence the son of dragon is Monkey D luffy.

Again, the monkey god once tried to eat the sun, thinking of it as a ripe Mango 🥭. And in the anime, Monkey D luffy ate the nika nika nomi (the sun god fruit).

I think Dragon is not on the same level as Akainu. He is equivalent to Luffy which means stronger than an Admiral. It will probably be Sabo vs Akainu. Dragon vs a god Knight or Gorosei.

Off topic but I just realized that luffy's fruit was on a marine ship in the exact chests that apparently have kaidos fruit. Meaning that more than likely that fruit was being taken to one of these culling events and was set to be a prize. Shanks being a celestial dragon of high blood he probably knew all of this. Including everything about luffy's fruit even the real name and power. To me this means shanks wanted to eat it possibly needing it for the one piece.
