Atlis XT Reveal - 1.5 Megawatts of charging?!

CORRECTION: Kate incorrectly listed the Ford F-150's maximum payload as 7700lbs - this is the base towing capacity. The correct payload for the Ford F-150 is 2000lbs (0.9 metric tons). All other figures are correct.

At the beginning of the week Atlis revealed the preproduction prototype of the Atlis XT pickup. What did it have to say about what's under that angular skin?

Correction at 3:33: the Ford F-150 Lighting has a payload of 1800 - 2000 lbs (depending on battery size), not 7700 lbs. The towing capacity of the standard model is 7700 lbs.

A fascinating vehicle. I hope they make it to market. But I agree with your reservation about touch screens. Most designers/engineers seem oblivious to the fact that many people as they approach and pass 60 years old, experience a substantial drop in the capacitive reactance of their skin - it dries out as you get older. This makes touch screens unreliable. All the important functions in my Chevy Bolt are haptic (buttons). This means I don't have to try multiple times to get a control to activate - a major safety concern (I'm 68).
Yes, I know touchscreen technology is wonderful and provides a vast and exciting technological landscape for feature development, implementation, and revision, and that works great in an environment where the user can devote their full attention to the interface (such as in a laboratory or office). I know because I have developed such interfaces - I worked in the Silicon Valley for 20 years. However, if I am driving, operations that detract from my situational awareness must be kept at an absolute minimum, and this is where haptic controls have a strong advantage.

A regular cab with an 8 foot bed?... I am all in! Finally, a real and functional work truck. I do so wish though, that it would have physical switches and buttons.

A lot of the technical stuff is well beyond my Ken, but I still find it really informative. It’s well presented by Kate, giving Nikki a run for her money. Greetings from wet and windy Shropshire.

I'd be happy with an F150 Lightning, but being able to own an Atlis XT, I believe would cause extreme levels of unnatural delight. :D

There is nothing wrong with being a niche player. There is plenty of market out there for all players as long as everyone plays fair. Best luck Atlis!

As a retired electrician I wonder how large an extension cord I will need to carry the near 2000 amps it will take to charge my truck at a 1.5 megawatt level, at what I might wrongly assume is charging somewhere around the 800 volt range, without it glowing red and melting any plastic around the charging port. Lol...You might have to call a lineman just to plug it in? Great video though, Kate! Thanks for the breakdown!

Very informative, interesting perspective and funny ! "... while holding a towel with one hand ..." laughed out loud that one. Great video.

This truck to me looks more of a "real work truck" than Cybertruck (which I love and have preordered) or F150 or any electric Silverado that comes out. None of those models will have an 8 foot bed option. Now if they only had a 2-door non-crew-cab version! Thank you for the video guys.

I’ve been following them for a year or so and I’m an investor. I liked the original design because it looked more like a “regular” pickup than the cyber or R1T. Now it looks like a cross between the two. As a rancher, this truck has just about everything I would want a ranch truck to have BUT getting the “good old boys” to go along with the angular design will be more challenging than the original design they started with.

Well that's.... Industrial...! Can you imagine that anywhere in Britain?! 😂
Admirable sounding company, good on them for their approach, really wish them all the best with their truck.
Great video Kate, as ever. 👍

Liked the content and presentation. Great to have someone give Nikki a break from all the presentations! Also appreciated the cessation of “Tesla Killer” comments everyone else continue to spout. There has been and will continue to be many vehicle options. Here’s hoping the variety will entice more people to cease fossil fuel burning. FYI i had to bring my iD4 in to VW to replace a faulty module and they only had a Tiguan for me to use as a loaner. God it was awful. I am so used to driving my iD4 that being in a combustion engined car is just a let-down now!

I do like the frunk. I can see how not having to lift too high over a front support would be helpful. I never use my M3 frunk as I’m afraid to damage the paint.

"Whilst holding a towel", there are so many uses for a towel 8-)

The way Atlis is running the company really reminds me of the way Arcimoto has been run.

But a class six pickup? There's no even *PLANNED* competitor yet. We've got a raft of class 2 (one might qualify as class 3, ) and some class 8. But Atlis is the only thing in between.

Lordstown just sold it's factory to Foxconn, which is famous for not actually using it's factories, so yeah.
The new Ford factory near Memphis is supposed to start churning out the 2nd gen Lightning and the HD trucks that we have yet to see in 2025, so hopefully Atlis can get in under the wire.
One of my work friends is completely sold on the Atlis while I have been putting deposits on Cybertruck and F-150 in hopes of getting something eventually, one day, maybe

Love the technical information, industry historical references, combined with the tongue-in-cheek humor.

I like what Atlis is doing but wish they could secure financing or a backer to accelerate their progress.

Also, buttons. Work trucks with hamfisted, potentially gloved, users need buttons.

Kate. That was one of the BEST "TE" episodes in years.
